POCKET PC E310 STRONG ARM 32MB 206MHZ 3.5 TFT SD WIN POCKET PC (Toshiba-PA3169U1P05) Review, by Michael S. Lasky July 22, 2002

WHAT'S HOT: Who would have thought it could happen--a Pocket PC that actually fits comfortably in your pocket. Toshiba's inexpensive E310 weighs less than 5 ounces and measures just under a half-inch thick, making it the sleekest, most stylish Pocket PC to date. And its $399 price tag belies its generous package of hardware and software features. A crisp, bright, high-resolution 65,536-color reflective display offers easy readability indoors and out. The great screen is particularly good when you're using the included Pocket Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, or any of several bundled games.
WHAT'S NOT: The E310 comes with just 32MB of memory. While that gets you by for basic functions, it is obviously not enough for any sort of lengthy multimedia storage. Battery life also seems to have taken a hit as a result of the small size, getting about 5 to 7 hours between charges.
WHAT ELSE: An included headphone port on the top of the unit means you can use the E310 as a digital music (MP3, WMA) and video player as well. The Secure Digital card slot allows you to add data storage and lets you transfer files and apps easily; you can also have wireless connectivity with a WiFi or Bluetooth card.
UPSHOT: While you may have to top the battery off more often than you would with other Pocket PC devices, the convenience of the E310's size and weight more than compensates. The least-expensive, lightest Pocket PC out there is ideal for anyone who wants the power of a Pocket PC device without the bulk.

Strengths: Great Screen, Programs, OS, OVERALL AWESOME!
Weaknesses: battery life is 7 hours (7-8)
Overall: AWESOME! I looove everything about this PPC! The maker is great, I have a Sattelite (laptop) and its overall just Great! Good features :D. The screen size, small overall size, and great functions make this better than the IPAQ and the Jornada and the Dell series Axims.

Strengths: Excellent integration with Outlook and Office programs. Good screen. Excellent portable-Office functionality.
Weaknesses: Battery life could be a little more robust.
Overall: Migrated from the Palm world, and very pleased with product. Very good unit. Can fit in a shirt pocket, as does a Palm. Block recognition very close to Palm grafitti writing, which makes transition easier. Some cool additions include ability to play MP3 files and easy integration with office programs - can bring spreadsheets and doc files along for reference or modification. Can respond to emails during long meetings.

Strengths: It is so thin, Palm looks like a giant next to this PPC. 206 MHz processor is more than enough speed for most of the apps. Price. Paid $200 at PCnation.com.
Weaknesses: Screen quality is nominal. 32 MB storage is too small. No CF, SDs are expensive.
Overall: Well the price I paid is lower than most of the PALMs out there. 206 Mhz porcessor handles videos fine. Screen quality is considerably low comparing to my old CASIO 125 with 150MHz. But size matters with PDAs. Smaller is better. In your shirt pocket, e310 is almost invisible. Gotta get a SD card if you want expandibility and more storage for videos. Overall, this is a good machine for beginners. But if you are novice or above go for e740 or Genio-e.

Strengths: Screen size, resoultion and color. MP3 playback. Good assortment of Apps. Light weight and compact.
Weaknesses: Small base memory. No expansion slots (i.e. Compact flash.) No internal modem. Expensive wireless networking option.
Overall: This Pocket PC has most of the apps you'd expect and some features like MP3 playback that make it a well rounded investment. Battery life is exceptional for a device in this portable category. Small base memory is limiting, especially if you want to store MP3 songs. You will definitely need an additional SD memory card. No modem makes connecting to the internet impossible unless cradled and connected to your PC.

Strengths: Extremely thin, light. Long lasting battery. Good price.
Weaknesses: No Compact Flash slot.
Overall: This is a fantastic little unit that serves my needs very well. I use the unit many times a day for it's calendar, tasks, and contacts functions. I also use Pocket Excel for relatively simple calculations and am reading books with Microsoft Reader, and the unit meets my every expectation. The side scrolling thumb wheel is great for reading books as you can switch hands for page turns when you get tired of holding the unit one way or another. I find it significantly more comfortable than a paper novel. I put the unit in it's cradle probably every one or two days, and haven't yet had the battery even run below 40% with regular usage and several hours of book reading over a weekend. Excellent deal and a great base-line PDA.
