TDK VeloCD 40/12/48 Review

- WHAT'S HOT: The VeloCD 40/12/48's CD-RW performance is among the most competitive. The drive took only 1 minute, 8 seconds to write our 100MB folder of files--just 2 seconds shy of the fastest drive we tested, the Pacific Digital Mach 48. It's also fast at digital audio extraction, taking 1 minute, 26 seconds to extract 320MB of audio files (1 second longer than the leading drives).

Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Fast burner

Weaknesses: requires more thought and management to use than say a Plextor.

Overall Evaluation: The BIG ONE with this product is that you must use the CD calibration utility in Nero to calibrate a new blank CD product to this CD burner. If you don't calibrate this CD burner will not work well, i.e., music tracks that skip. If you change to a new blank CD brand you must recalibrate the burner with Nero. Then you're all set for all the CDs of that type. Most people don't know this and give up on this burner as being defective. No information is offered in the retail package about this major requirement for using this product. Also, update to latest version of Nero Cd burning software.
