IBM ThinkPad T30 Review

- WHAT'S HOT: The T30 is IBM's first ThinkPad to include both a touchpad and IBM's standard eraserhead--a design that should win over a lot of people who have never gotten the hang of IBM's pointing stick. The touchpad's set of dedicated mouse buttons are just as comfortable as the eraserhead's, and unlike the buttons on most other notebooks, they depress deeply for solid feedback. The T30 is well-equipped for roaming--our review model came with both Bluetooth and 802.11b connectivity built in.

    Duration of ownership:

    Strengths: Lightning fast, awesome keyboard

    Weaknesses: None

Overall Evaluation: Have owned Sony Vaio, Apple Powerbook and Compaq notebooks but this is the best laptop so far. The keyboard is fabulous, trackpoint great, awesome screen resolution, elegant packaging and ergonomics. Would definetly purchase another THINKPAD.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Tough robust machine. I bought it after having an IBM R30, which survived hard rough treatment from many users. The T30 seems to be as good in this respect. Good support from IBM Technical Services

Weaknesses: Not particularly fast but fairly stable. Experienced difficulty in adding Sony and HP accessories, such as DVD burners and an Air card, which I had to get technical assistance with.

Overall Evaluation: Recommend this T30 machine for anyone who travels a lot and allows it to be used by several users. It's not the fastest, but it is steady and reliable. Well designed and has a good range of accessories and upgradable features.
