The D-Link AirPlus DI-614+ Wireless Router's claim to fame is its 22-mbps "Plus" mode, ostensibly twice as fast as the usual (11-mbps) 802.11b wireless connection and made possible by a new Texas Instruments chip set found in products from U.S. Robotics and others.
In our testing, the D-Link was indeed the speed champ, posting the fastest throughput when clients were in close range and signal strength was high. Even 11-mpbs clients ran a little faster when used with the D-Link router. When we moved clients about 40 feet away from the router, with intervening wall and floor obstructions, however, signal strength dropped to about 50 percent, and speeds dropped slightly below those of the top-rated 11-mbps units. Even at 50 percent strength, though, the D-Link performed better than most gateways.
The AirPlus DI-614+ has other advantages besides speed. It offers 256-bit encryption--the strongest available--extensive parental control features, and deep firewall configuration options. Router setup was simple, and a handy quick installation guide led us through the procedure in just a few minutes. Installing client drivers went less smoothly. We had to backtrack through a couple uninstalls and restarts to get each adapter working properly, despite following the very specific setup instructions.
The router's firewall features are excellent and easy to implement if you use the examples in the manual. For example, you can designate particular computers as Web or FTP servers, which are visible to the Internet. You can even set a schedule for access. Home users will probably make the greatest use of the special application support (such as enabling particular ports for games), parental control options (such as URL and domain blocking), and MAC filtering. MAC filtering allows you to block Web access to a specific device on a network by using its unique hardware identifier or MAC (for Media Access Control). The AirPlus DI-614+ can be managed from a remote location, and network managers will appreciate its extensive logging and traffic statistics functions.

Strengths: Signal strenght for 11Mbps throughput. 256-bit WEP is awesome.
Weaknesses: NONE.
Overall: This was my first Dlink wireless router. With this one i had to update the firmware because of intermittent connection problem. Still working fine as a spare.

Strengths: parential controls
Weaknesses: very poor wireless range.
Overall: I have had very poor wireless reception unless the recieving computer was in the same room. Read some review and bought the extended range antenna, $30+, that didn't help. Bought the dlink dwl-800ap+ wireless repeater for $80. Wireless performance still sucks. Dlink web site and telephone support are very poor. Instructions on setting up the wireless repeater are very poor. I suggest you buy a Linksys or Netgear wireless unit. I can pick up a Netgear wireless network across the street and down 2 houses better than I can in my own house.

Overall: This router is pretty good for the price. But, I would still prefer a linksys router anyday. This router had no problems for me except that it sometimes would drop packets spontaneously. All in all, a good router for the price. If you've got some extra cash, spend it on a Linksys.

Strengths: cheap initially but not worth it when it died and I had to buy another.
Weaknesses: Crappy product. Lasted 2 months and died. D-Link refused to reimburse. Do not buy D-link products, they are poorly made.

Spent days on phone with tech support to get connected at all and they were all 17 year olds reading off a computer screen, completely useless.

Strengths: strong signal, good looks, fairly easy setup.
Weaknesses: their tech support sucks, I called on three different occasions and ended up getting it fixed by myself and long hours of troubleshooting. They seemed to wanna just get to the next call.....
Overall: After last night I am really amazed with this router. My friends girlfriend is in the same apt complex and she has been dealing with dial up for a long time. He suggested we try one of my D-link wireless cards (DL 520+) down the other side of the apts at his girlfriends apt. I set the card up in his new computer I built thinking it was a waste of time. Boy was I wrong!!! this puppy has some range!!! And now I have probably talked them out of paying for dial-up and getting their internet thru me!!!!
