Pioneer PIONEER DVD/CD RECORDABLE INT ATAPI
Bottom Line
The DVR-AO3 DVD-R/CD-R combo drive can quickly store large high-quality digital video files or archive data on DVD media, but its CD writing is slow.

Strengths: Works just like a built-in Superdrive when added to a G4 Mac as an internal drive.
Weaknesses:
Overall Evaluation: I've used the drive for two weeks now as a replacement for the internal DVD-ROM that came with my G4 450 DP. It works just like a built-in Superdrive and is recognized by Toast, iDVD2, and iTunes in OS X (I don't use 9 anymore, so I haven't tried it there). I used the install instructions at http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ They also have reviews of the drive by Mac users you have added this to their systems. I've burned CD-R and DVD-R media without a single coaster. This was an excellent investment.

Strengths: Burning Perfectly (knock on wood!!)
Weaknesses:
Overall Evaluation: I bought this because I wanted to make sure I got a burner that works and would be compatible and reliable, plus it was one of the least expensive. The drive only burns single layered DVD which means you can't just make back-up copies of your DVD movie collection. Beware of cheap DVDR media, bought some generic brand for like $2.95ea and they burned OK, but video was choppy (Improved burning 1X) I guess only data is going on those disc. Other than media the drive burns a full DVD in like 30min at 2X and I found that when I used the drive on my Win98 installation I could only get it to burn at 1X. So if you don't have Windows2000 or WindowsXP your performance might not be as good with the same hardware running win2k.
