VX900 SPEAKERS DIG/ANALOG TCO-99 (ViewSonic-VX9001) Review, by Roy Santos January 7, 2003

WHAT'S HOT: ViewSonic's $920, 19-inch VX900 monitor renders sharp text and sumptuous images. A wide viewing angle of 159 degrees (according to PC World's measurements) assures that you'll easily see images even if you're viewing the display from the side (if the monitor is used to give a group presentation, for example).
The three-year warranty inspires confidence, and the 24-hour daily tech support is better than what most LCD makers offer.
WHAT'S NOT: The E-color Colorific software from Lightsurf Technologies that's included with the monitor is simple to use, but ViewSonic doesn't provide documentation; if you run into any kinks, you're on your own.
WHAT ELSE: The VX900 has a nice silver bezel, but we found it slightly thick and bulky-looking. The integrated speakers sounded rather weak in our tests.
The unit's nifty on-screen menu controls are sensitive to the touch, so making adjustments is a breeze. At times, however, the controls can be overly sensitive--it's easy to push buttons and accidentally change settings if you're adjusting the bezel, say, or if you're moving the monitor. And each time you push a button you get a beep, which can become annoying.
UPSHOT: With its sharp text, fine graphics, and wide viewing angle, the VX900 would easily please most demanding users.

Strengths: It's a large screen
Weaknesses: Resolution issues, colors not very vibrant
Overall: Have an inventory program with drop down menus and on certain menues this monitor will not display information when monitor is at its optimal resolution of 1280x1024. I have to adjust to 1280x768 and screen look bad at this resolution. Tech support only wants to point fingers at others for the problem and has no suggestions. I do not have these problems with other manufactures lcd monitors. This monitor is up for sale.

Strengths: Easy on the eyes, easy on the wallet, large screen and lightweight.
Weaknesses: None yet.
Overall: I'm a merchant marine and as such I spend months at sea so I needed a monitor that I could carry with me. I really don't care for laptops. I'll be hooking into the closed circut T.V. aboard the ship as well as playing DVD's and games. The monitor is the most important part of this equation and the VX900B I bought from Newegg for $745. doesn't dissapoint. I stick with the native 1280x1024 resolution using the DVI connector and havn't noticed any ghosting whatsoever during gameplay or DVD playback. The colors are vibrant and crisp and my eyes don't burn from sitting in front of a screen anymore. If you're a professional graphics expert you should use your inteligence and take a look at LCD's before buying one. As for the remaining 99.9% of us, this is a great monitor that will perform admirably at any "mainstream" task. Another great thing about LCD's in general is that, unlike a CRT, the pitcure will not degrade or fade over the years. If the backlighting bulb should eventually fail you can simply replace it. The picture will always look the same as the day you bought it.

Strengths: crisp, clear and bright enough for my viewing.
Weaknesses: none that I can see so far.
Overall: So far so good, big view and bright. Set it at 1024x768 and keeping up with all the application and gaming I am throwing at it. I don't know, it could be the best monitor in the market in my humble opinion.

Strengths: the beauty of the colors and clearness of the pictures makes it a pleasure to work on the computer
Weaknesses: I have found none and the lack of turning and height adjustment is not a problem.
Overall: This is my second viewsonic monitor and this is worth waiting for. I shopped all over and viewed at least 25 LCD screens and viewsonic always came out ahead in, clearity, color in all areas and the beauty of the design and colors of screens available to select. Whether you look at the screen for one hour or several hours your eyes to do not feel strained. Save your self lots of running around and go directly to a store that sells Viewsonic monitors or LCD'S.

Strengths: Great contrast and very clear text. Vivid colors. Nice design.
Weaknesses: Pixalation when graphics are enlarged but not annoying for normal user.
Overall: Very bright and "forward" text and colors . Easy to view even at the recommended resolution (1280 X 1204 @ 60.02 Hz). Some pixalation that may impact on big time graphic user types. But for the normal user an excellent choice. A palpable difference in viewing experience from a CRT monitor. Text and colors are vivid and easier on the eyes...so far. I would recommend this monitor highly for users who work with text, minor graphic use, spreadsheets, charts or other "typical" home and office use.
