Bottom Line
The PSC 2210 produces some of the best output we've seen from an MFP, but it can be pokey, and it doesn't come cheap.
HP PSC 2210 All-in-One
PSC 2210 Review, by Roy Santos May 1, 2003

WHAT'S HOT: The HP PSC 2210 earned high scores for print and scan quality. The colors on the device's prints were generally realistic, though a bit dark in some places. Its scan quality was second only to that of the Brother MFC-4420C, but it outperformed that MFP in our print and copy tests. The PSC 2210 garnered the best quality scores in our 4-by-5 color and line-art scan tests.
The PSC 2210 had the second-best overall scores in our text and line-art print tests. The sharp, easily readable documents it produced were second only to the HP LaserJet 3330mfp's output in overall quality.
The device's memory-card readers support the CompactFlash, Secure Digital, SmartMedia, and Memory Stick formats. If you're a digital photo enthusiast, you'll appreciate the PSC 2210's photo index system. After you insert a memory card with photos, the device prints a proof sheet containing photo thumbnails. You simply check those you want to print, and then scan the sheet to generate your prints--all without the aid of a PC.
The PSC 2210's built-in fax is easy to use. At the machine's lowest resolution, you can fax up to 50 pages without using your PC. When we faxed at the standard 300-dpi resolution, however, the memory was full after 13 pages.
WHAT'S NOT: The HP PSC 2210 was slow in most of our scan tests. It took 41 seconds to scan a 4-by-5-inch color print at 100 dpi, and it practically crawled at 56 seconds when scanning a one-page Word document (the average MFP scan time for this document was 37 seconds). And at $300, the PSC 2210 is among the more expensive MFPs we looked at.
WHAT ELSE: The Iris OCR engine built into HP's Photo and Imaging software is serviceable, but we didn't find it as useful as the Abbyy FineReader OCR engine used in the drivers of the Dell A940, the Lexmark X5150, and the PrinTrio X75.
The interface of HP's Photo and Imaging software is simple: Its control panel is a 1-inch horizontal bar with big icons that allow easy access to such basic functions as copying and scanning. Though the driver doesn't indicate how much ink you have left when you print, you can find this information elsewhere in the program.
UPSHOT: The PSC 2210 produces some of the best output we've seen from an MFP, but it can be pokey, and it doesn't come cheap.

Strengths: None
Weaknesses: Poor Mac integration, poorly engineered
Overall: This was the last piece of junk I have bought from HP. The scanner frequently locked up when the unit was turned on, until eventually it quit working completely. The drivers were poorly written. It always, no matter the driver revision, would print extra blank pages from Excel, or would just stop printing mid-page. Finally this thing is slow. I could get a box of crayons out and render a drawing of my page quicker than this would print it.I currently own a Brother 5840CN, which works consistently and works well with the Mac OS. I strongly suggest you steer clear of this brand, especially if you are a Mac user.

Strengths: Great scans, nice prints, relatively quiet
Weaknesses: Tears paper, slow copies, expensive ink, included software
Overall: I've had this printer for 4 months now and am not all that happy with it. Yes, it does produce nice prints, but it puts a little rip in the paper it prints them on. I've contacted HP support about this and did everything they suggested without any luck. It will also grab multiple sheets every once in a while. I do like the scan quality though. It's also nice having a copy feature although it is extremely slow. My other complaint is the same as with all other HP devices I've worked with: the included software is a resource hog. Fortunately it's tolerable with just the bare minimum installed. Overall I like the idea of having an all-in-one and will probably buy another one (from another company), but this one is a lemon.

Strengths: hi quality prints and copies with ease of operation
Weaknesses: sending faxes requires page by page installing in flatbed
Overall: I've yet to use the 2210 for digital photo processing, but intend to do so when I get a camera. But for all other functions, it's been better than expected. I went through a B/W cartridge fairly fast but bought a 4 pack for $45, so it's fairly economical.

Strengths: Great multi-use piece of equipment, saves allot fo room on my desk. Makes quick copies, b/w prints, and does pictures too!
Weaknesses: None found yet.
Overall: Great little product, not one complaint yet regarding it. I dont think it makes all that much noise. For what it does, the $280 I paid for it was well worth every penny. Works great, easy to set up, I just love it.

Strengths: Ease of use, photo quality
Weaknesses: No USB cable, slow, proof sheet
Overall: Very happy with my HP unit. Stuck in the photo cartridge and was AMAZED at the high-quality pictures in color, sepia, and b/w. Pictures are higher quality than I would get with my film camera at the photo store. very convenient and easy to use -- just insert the memory card, load 4X6 photo paper and you get excellent prints. It is rather slow (took about 45 min. to print 30 pics), but you don't have to baby-sit it. Haven't used up the ink cartriges yet, so I can't say how long they last. Only problem I had was when I printed a photo proof sheet, the scanner said it couldn't read one of the sheets. But that's not hard to correct -- it's actually easier to punch in the numbers of the pic on the keypad than to fill in all those little bubbles. Color and b/w copying is also great. Noise is not a problem. Also seems very sturdy -- I dropped it when taking it out of the box, but it didn't hurt it. Oh, and the cartridges are kind of a pain to change -- they don't give you much room in there to move around. But I'm very happy with my hp, especially with the excellent quality of the photos.
