Samsung SyncMaster 152T
152T Review, by Mick Lockey February 4, 2003

WHAT'S HOT: With its attractive silver-and-black bezel, the 152T--which we first reviewed in July 2002--looks stylish. In addition to having the flexibility to stretch up and outward, the screen can bend back so that it lies flat against its base, making it easy to tote around. Another thoughtful feature: Power and signal connectors are built into the monitor base, so you don't have to turn the panel upside down to hook up cable inputs. An all-black version is also available.
The 152T offers sharp color quality, too, especially on photos and Web page graphics. Test photos sported sharp detail, and a painting on a Web page showed good color gradation compared to how it looked on competing models.
WHAT'S NOT: In our retests using an updated test system, fonts on typical business documents were easy to read, though less evenly rendered than on some other monitors in our test group. In a test of the monitor's ability to display light-gray type on a dark background, the 152T stumbled; the fine print was less visible than on competing monitors.
WHAT ELSE: Instead of having round control buttons on the bezel, this panel has thin slivers, which responded well to light pressure. Nonetheless, they require a few extra pokes before adjustments take effect. Augmenting the standard array of controls are a control for locking settings and an auto-adjust.
Documentation includes a well-illustrated manual on a CD-ROM and a four-page booklet that outlines setup procedures. Extra software includes Natural Color software, which lets you match screen color quality to print jobs.
UPSHOT: An excellent choice for users looking to upgrade to a stylish-looking panel that can display colors with finesse.

Strengths: Slick setup in XP Pro. Great image quality. Very thin, light unit folds flat and comes with wall mount. Cabling (Digital, Analog and Power) hook up at rear of base. Pretty!
Weaknesses: 15" diagonal screen. Wish I could afford a 17" or bigger.
Overall: I looked around and found this model for $279 with free shipping from PCConnection. It works very well with my Asus FX5200 TD video card. Samsung's are supposed to be nice LCD monitors and this one certainly is. No dead pixels. Great image quality. Small footprint on my desktop and easy cabling and driver install with XP Pro. It also looks very nice in silver/black. If you need a 15" LCD with digital (and analog) input and reasonable price, this is a great buy. If you want built-in speakers, you are probably deaf and can buy one of the other models for a substantial kick in price.

Strengths: Crisp color. Shick design. Great features for its price. This has even better features than some 17 inch monitors.
Weaknesses: None so far.
Overall: I just got this monitor and so far I am very pleased with it. I have researched hard to get the best monitor around my $400 budget and I found this great monitor. I highly recommend this product.
