Visioneer Strobe XP 100 for Win 600dpi 36BIT Color SF Scanner Bus Powered (Visioneer-SXP1001DB)

  Overall: My experience with the Strobe XP100 was just like the previous reviewer's, and I sent it back after a few days. I'm using my Strobe Pro (USB 1.1 version), which has AutoStart, it's faster. I don't take it with me in my trips, so the fact that it's slightly bulkier, and has a power block (instead of USB powered) while it's not a plus, it does not bother me either. I'd be interested in trying the new Strobe Pro XP200 USB 2.0, but I find it to be overpriced at $265 approx. There are multifunction machines with ADF scanner, fax, printer, copier in the market for that price. So, the XP200 would have to come to the mid 100's to hit the sweet spot for me. However, since I did not see the original StrobePro dropping to that price level ever, I would not expect the XP200 to do it either.

  Overall: THIS IS NOT A USB POWERED VERSION OF THE STROBE PRO. I PURCHASED THIS SCANNER AFTER OWNING A STROBE PRO FOR APPROX. 1 YR. THE STROBE PRO WAS FAST, AUTOFEED, AND AUTOMATICALLY DETECTED THE CORRECT PAPER SIZE. IT ALSO ACCEPTS SLIGHTLY OVERWIDE SHEETS. THE STROBE XP 100 DOES NOT HAVE ANY OF THESE FEATURES. HOWEVER, MY MAIN USE OF THE SCANNER WAS FOR PORTABLE USE WITH MY LAPTOP. THE XP 100 IS BETTER FOR THIS TYPE OF USE BECAUSE IT IS USB POWERED. OVERALL, IF YOU NEED A SMALL SCANNER FOR HOME OR OFFICE USE THE STROBE PRO IS A FAR SUPERIOR SCANNER. IF YOU NEED PORTABILITY, THE XP 100 IS HARD TO BEAT.
