Lexmark X5150 All-In-One Printer (Lexmark-17K0284)

User Reviews for Lexmark X5150 All-In-One Printer (Lexmark-17K0284)

    Strengths:

Weaknesses: page feed, changing cartridges, support, printer is loud and slow

Overall Evaluation: The paper feeds crooked all the time! When I changed ink cartridges I started to get white horizontal lines on part of my page. I figured maybe I left something on the cartridge but no I had not. I reinstalled both the black and color, followed the on-printer window and instructions... still part of my printouts have lines or incomplete sections and not always in the same place. I can NEVER depend on the print I will receive whether I'll be able to use it or not.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Farily easy to operate. Fast black & white copies

Weaknesses: Ink costs are outrageous! Cartridges difficult to find. Drinks ink! Scanned documents faded & rarely legible. Not suitable for consistent, true-color photos.

Overall Evaluation: I purchased my printer primarily for digital photos. The Photo-Editing program is weak. A new cartridge will print true colors for a few pages, then blues look teal, grays appear purple and skin tones often Orange. I use only Kodak professional quality paper, have a nice computer with Windows ME. I use more ink printing trouble-shooting or cleaning pages than I do printing photos. I use several cartridges a month and have the same experience every time. Scanned documents are often streaky and faded and are rarely legible. Not much better quality than the old Lexmark I used for years. The old model was not a photo printer. Cartridges not available at discount stores, only at high-end office supply stores or on-line. After less than a year and a half, I'm shopping for a new printer that actually prints quality photos and have no doubt that it will pay for itself quickly. It won't be a Lexmark!

Strengths: Well, I've had the products of a couple days, and printed over 50 documents with it, it works fairly well.

Weaknesses: I am running out of ink already.

Overall Evaluation: The body of the printer/copier/scanner is considerably larger than most on the market now, although the finished product is similar to the HP model. The software gave me some problems, Windows XP said some files were corrupt, but overall since I didn't pay a whole lot for the product, i guess it's to be expected.

    Strengths: Cheap Price.

    Weaknesses: Quality Problems

Overall Evaluation: I had this printer for less then 7 months and I'm getting false paper jam conditions. The poor design of using one roller causes the paper to skew when feeding into printer. I would guess there is also a poor design on the Paper Jam Sensor which is the cause of my problem. As they say you get what you pay for. I going try to take the printer back and I hope the warranty is still good if not I will never buy a lexmark printer again.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Prints fast B&W, setup was easy without problems

Weaknesses: Quite often the machine takes the paper in on an angle and the output is skewed/crooked and/or there is a paper jam. Waste of paper and ink - read in to that a waste of $$$$$$$.

Overall Evaluation: Called Lexmark support after several paper problems and got a replacement sent - that also went well and without a glitch. However the same problem cropped up with the replacement machine. Called support again and they offered "there is nothing wrong with the printer, it's the paper, change to a better grade". I have an abundant supply of paper inventory and the paper worked just fine in the previous HP, Cannon, and before that another HP. So it's got to be the printer that does not work for MY work set up. Trying to get a refund is, so far, next to impossible. I would not recommend the Lexmark 5150.
