  Strengths: Unlinke others, I have not had an issue burning -r discs. It has worked like a champ. I have been using TDK discs for years and they still work the best.

  Weaknesses: I prefer Nero over Roxio, but still works great.

  Overall: I bought this and then dual layer drives came out. However, TDK discs have led me to their drives. So, all in all, this product has continued my success with TDK.

  Strengths: Dependable and Fast Burns...

  Weaknesses: ...try to burn DVD-Rs -- forget it!!!

  Overall: Made a dozen coasters trying to find a program to use with this unit to burn a DVD-R. My experience is exactly the same as the review! What really irks me is that TDK won't admit they have a FAULTY unit on their hands(and ours!). They gave me a whole list of causes and fixes-they even told me to start shutting down programs in my registry!!! Can you believe that? My TDK buying days are over!

  Overall: Even after I updated de firmware (1.0A) I've had issues when trying to record DVD-R format.Yes it can record but it becomes virtualy impossible to reproduce it in other DVD-ROM players.This makes multi format suport a lie because it only suports DVD+R and RW. If you are thinking of buying think twice.I wish I haven't...

  Overall: You will never have problems with most DVD writers out there unless you get a knock-off brand or a generic. My choices boiled down between the TDK and Pioneer. I chose the TDK because it happened to be less expensive for me (I found a great deal) and from previous experience with the TDK series of CD burners. I am happy with my choice. It's fast and I haven't experienced any writing errors. But probably more important than the DVD writer itself is the software you use to support it. The Roxio bundle included with this one is okay, but I recommend purchasing Alcohol 120 for your burning tasks, especially images.

  Overall: I would recommend this to anyone wanting to burn DVDs or CDs. TDK is a well respected brand, and this can handle anything you throw at it. I have had TDK CD burning products before and have always been very happy with them. This is a very sharp design with both Matte and Gloss Black on the front bezel. A perfect match with any balck or charcoal colored case.
