  Strengths: Easy to learn, easy to use, excellent pictures

  Overall: I had owned a previous point and shoot digital and used it all the time. Then got a new camera bug...and spent many hours investigating cameras and finally decided on the Rebel. WOW...GREAT DECISION! I have shot more than 1200 pictures and am enjoying them, they look professionally done. Living in Albuquerque NM...the Ballon Fiesta was where I really really tested the camera out..you wouldn't believe my pictures! I took fantastic pictures out my back yard with a telephonic lense, got great shots as they flew over my head and also at the night balloon glow (you do need a tripod for night shooting). This is a MUST HAVE camera and worth every cent you pay for it...I recommend a good photo printer and your all set! I am shooting my daughter's family Christmas Photo's! LOVING IT!!!!!!!!!!!

  Overall: I was not a SLR camera user before, I just used point and shoots. Then I saw this beauty and tried to resist. I went to the store 5 times to just look at it being it was so pricy at first( 1000.00) for the kit. Then I caved in and bought it and since that day I never have had one regret about making my purchase. I use this camera everywhere, at sporting events, on trips, family events and general action. With the use of my editing programs I can print out pictures at photoshop quality without really doing much to hte picture other than a crop or two. If anyone is thinking about buying this camera I say DO IT. Also the SLR lenses work great with it, I was loaned a lense from someone who had a regular rebel and they were even impressed with the picture quality that I was getting compaired to the 35mm. Also with the Flashcard and depending what file setting you choose you can shoot over 300 pics which means less rolls of film to carry. I have read other reviews that say this camera has problems but I have run across other users including professionals who swear by this camera. I just might by a second being the price is now starting to drop.

  Strengths: SLR; interchangeable lenses with my years-old film SLR Rebel; familiar feel; simple to use; easy to see review panel with true-to-life color LCD screen.

  Overall: I waited a long time before buying a digital camera because I loved the quality of my film-based EOS Rebel. When Canon hit the market with this, I started getting serious because I didn't want my investment in lenses becoming a white elephant. I didn't buy from the cheapest internet store, but shopped for a good buy from a well-rated and trusted store. So I ended up paying about $900 for a camera kit (18-50 mm lens), flash card, and extra (generic) battery pack from my local camera store since some days I may take up to a hundred pictures and I like to use the preview feature. The results are just what I wanted -- the great quality of my film-based Rebel with its various lens configurations. I am a thrilled true believer. No disappointments.The camera modes are easy to understand and use, and would be, I think, to a new user as well as one already familiar with the film Rebel. I'm a serious amateur, just out to get the best on-the-spot pictures of everything from family to nature scenes, as well as more difficult on-the-fly shots as wildflowers and tropical birds. I don't see how it could be better for me.

  Overall: I can't believe that PC World gives this camera a better review over the Nikon D70. It's a great camera, no question, but the D70 beats it in a number of areas including speed, flash sync capabilities, build quality, metering, and image quality. Take a look at any of the real photography websites for a better comparison of the two cameras. If you own Canon lenses already and are looking to get in to digital, then this camera is for you. If you are just starting out and will be buying lenses, or already a Nikon lens owner, then the D70 is the better camera, albeit a couple hundred $ more. The D70 is the best sub $1000 camera currently available, with the Digital Rebel as #2.

  Overall: Bought this as a back-up for my EOS 1ds. This camera can't do close to what the 1ds can but at $6500 cheaper it makes a great emergency use camera. I bought this to take places I might feel uncomfortable taking the 1ds (protests in the garment district of the Republican National Convention coming up this August)
