ViewSonic P220f
22IN/20.0V 27mm 1600x1200 97HZ P220F Perfect Flat TCO 99 (PC/Mac) (ViewSonic-P220F) Review, by Sean Captain January 8, 2004
Except for being a 22-incher, the P220f is nothing fancy: It's a simple CRT monitor that comes in either a beige or a black case and sells for a low price ($550 at the time of our review). But it does a nice job with text and reproduces rich, nuanced colors in graphics. In our tests displaying digital photos, for example, it scored nearly as well as a professional-grade monitor, the Mitsubishi DiamondPro 2070SB-BK With SpectraView , which can cost more than twice as much. Using ViewSonic's signature four-button controls, we were able to easily navigate advanced menus for refining image quality. Among the controls is a zoom function: After selecting a level of image magnification, you can toggle zooming on and off by tapping a dedicated button on the bezel.
Upshot: The P220f provides high-quality graphics quality at an entry-level price.

Strengths: Great color, OSD is excellent, Versatile and Professional
Weaknesses: Very blurry text with HD15 connector
Overall: I was initially very upset about this purchase. I turned on the monitor and the set the resolution to 1280 x 1024. Black text on a white background (like nearly every website you visit) was nearly unreadable. I found that after adjusting the contrast and brightness settings it improved somewhat. I then ordered an HD15 - BNC cable and hooked up this monitor via BNC connection. HUGE DIFFERENCE. I LOVE this monitor now. Everything is 1000 times as crisp and clear. Even the smallest text is not blurry at maximum resolution. I cannot say enough great things about this monitor since I have switched to BNC. I am an avid user of the Adobe Video Suite as well as Alias Maya for 3D Computer Animation. This monitor has everything I could ask for and at an incredible price. I am actually considering a second one to replace the 19" monitor I'm currently using in my dual display. DO NOT hesitate to purchase this monitor. I was able to find a Viewsonic Refurb Store on ebay and got this monitor for $325 shipped. INCREDIBLE

Strengths: Large viewable area and good enough graphics
Weaknesses: Mine crapped out
Overall: I use the P220f mainly for AutoCAD and casual photo editing applications. It is excellent for Cad and ok for Adobe Photoshop. There sometimes is a little monitor Induced ?glare? on high contrast images; a lighter shade will ?bleed over? to a dark shade. This doesn?t show on final prints so it is in the display. The flat screen with the anti glare coating dose a fairly good job of reducing reflections, important with AutoCAD, I use it with a black background.I took a break form working on the computer one day and when I returned, the monitor wasn?t working and smelled like an electrical fire. After getting an actual person on the phone it was easy to get an RMA number to make use of the three-year warranty. It gets shipped for repair tomorrow so I can?t comment further on the warrantee. If the unit gets trashed during shipping, I will use the shipping insurance to get another of the same.
