AOC LM729
17in LCD .26mm 1280x1024 75Hz BLK Pivot w/Spkrs Security Slot (AOC International-LM729) Review, by Richard Jantz January 30, 2004
With an eye-catching price of $449 (at the time of our review), the LM729 doesn't cost much more than a 15-inch LCD, but it provides higher resolution (1280 by 1024 pixels) and a lot more screen space. Its smooth adjustments include tilt, swivel, and height extension (up to about 4 inches). The panel pivots between landscape and portrait modes, too, and includes Portrait Displays' Pivot Pro software for flipping the screen image accordingly. Sleekly designed, the LM729's brushed-silver and black bezel is less than an inch wide, with an extra inch and a quarter at the bottom to accommodate a pair of two-watt stereo speakers (the speakers are good for playing basic system sounds, but they won't rock the house).
However, with its analog-input-only interface, the LM729 received a lower rating for overall graphics quality than the other models on our chart. The unit also uses the least expensive display panel technology (called twisted nematic). TN technology restricts the monitor's vendor-rated viewing angle (140 degrees in this case, for both horizontal and vertical), so it can't maintain high contrast and bright colors when viewed from an angle. In our tests, the LM729 failed to display as many of the darker shades in our gray-scale and color pattern tests as most of its competitors. On the other hand, it still offers better text quality than most 19-inch CRTs.
Upshot: The entry-level AOC LM729 is a fine choice for those who are seeking a bargain-price model for basic computing rather than a display with excellent image quality for graphics-intensive work or for entertainment.

Strengths: the sound built in i like the idea of not having the speakers.
Weaknesses: it is heavier then i thought.
Overall: the speakers are built in so you don't need the big bulky one. which is good for my little space. it is so much better then my old screen. playing wow on it is just awesome. i would buy again. and the price wasn't bad for a 17" LCD either.

Strengths: I like that the monitor is adjustable and the pivot ability is nice for typing pages. Bright, clear screen.
Weaknesses: None that I know of.
Overall: I have been using this monitor at work for over a month so I bought one for home. I actually bought a Samsung first but returned it because I liked this one better. I like that the monitor is adjustable. It is bright and clear. Built in speakers are fine for my needs. A good product at a good price. Local computer store said AOC is a good, reliable brand. Great price through pricegrabber.com.

Strengths: Rock bottom price, good looks, good image quality
Weaknesses: when put in portrait mode the viewing angle is kind of small
Overall: It;a a good deal of an LCD monitor, if you use your computer for entertainment this is a good starter in the LCD world. Very good looking design.

Strengths: one press button auto-adjust screen color and resolution and, normally clear screen
Weaknesses: difficulty in adjusting monitor height, sometimes text looks blurry on the side, and the stand height is difficult to adjust without accidentally banging it
Overall: It's a very good deal for customers looking for average quality 17" LCD monitors at a reasonable price. The screen visually presents images in a clear emission so if you're a novice photographer or works with medium-intensive graphics, it is something to consider.
