Planar PX191
PX191 19 Review, by Richard Jantz March 18, 2004
The PX191's displayed crisp text and colorful graphics, retaining excellent details in both dark and light tones. For example, the PX191 earned the highest score in its class for its ability to display the lightest and darkest shades in our gray-scale test (perhaps as a result of its high 700:1 contrast ratio). However, the PX191's price of $780 was second-highest among the models it competed against at the time of our review, and about $50 above the average.
Very flexible, the PX191 can smoothly swivel, tilt, and rotate from landscape to portrait mode. (Planar provides Portrait Display's PivotPro software for reorienting the screen.) Height can be adjusted (via a telescoping neck) up to a generous 4.3 inches from its base. You can manually adjust the red, green, and blue colors, but the monitor lacks an option for choosing the sRGB color space, or gamut, which would allow you to automatically match the colors of sRGB-compliant devices, such as printers and digital cameras.
Upshot: Although the PX191 is a bit pricey, it's a good performer (especially for text) and is among the most pliable monitors in its class.
19-inch screen; 1280 by 1024 native resolution; multidomain vertical alignment panel, 15.6 pounds, panel, one analog and one digital input. Tilt, swivel, height, and pivot adjustment; TCO'95 compliant. Three-year warranty (including backlight); 13-hour daily toll-free tech support.

Strengths: Bright, Sharp Display, Pivot and tilt features, Great warranty
Weaknesses: Gets dirty too easily! Pivot snaps into place sounding like it is breaking. Planar has a very poor and hard to follow website. So far, I've heard no feedback from them from my registration.
Overall: I've been very impressed with this model. I'm wondering why it didn't make the top 10 on the current PC World Reviews of 19 inch monitors. Was it reviewed? It is super sharp and the pivot works well. I leave it in the portrait mode all the time. It makes doing Word processing documents a breeze. Websites work better as well. My only gripe is that it snaps into each portrait or landscape mode, feeling a bit like it will break each time. Time will tell if this pivot point holds up.I purchased this because another review site showed no bad or negative comments from any reviewers. In fact, I could find no other negative reviews by actual users. All other models in the PC World Top 10 review featured some negative reviews. If you are looking for a solid LCD monitor, indeed consider this one. Though you may pay a bit more, you get a fine monitor.

Strengths: Design Style, 700:1 Contrast Ratio, 300 Brightness, Easy to use right out of the box. Beautiful Picture. Best Warranty out there.
Weaknesses: None Yet
Overall: I wanted to buy a flat screen LCD monitor but had no idea which one, except I did know that I wanted a 19 inch because I had a 19 inch CRT and wanted to stay with that size. I started to research them on the internet one by one. What I found was that they were quite costly and they vary from model to model. Some had some of the options I wanted and some didn't. I was having a hard time finding one with all the options I wanted. Finally I came across the Planar brand and what I found I liked. The PX191 had all of the features I wanted. Contrast Ratio, Brightness, Thin Style Design, Pivot, Ease of Use and very importantly one of the BEST Warranties on the market. After taking it right out of the box and hooking it up to my computer the picture is Beautiful and even better than I had imagined. If your in the market for a flat screen LCD you owe it to yourself to check-out the Planar line of flat screens. If you are like me and want to get the most for your money you will definitely find that in a Planar monitor. Though a little costly, there are other comparable LCD's out there that cost the same and even more but you'll get less! I would highly recommend this monitor to the pro or even the first time buyer, like me!
