Panasonic PV-DV73
Panasonic PV-DV73 Review
- The PV-DV73 sports an impressively bright fluorescent light that illuminates objects 5 or 6 feet away: If you ever got lost in the woods filming your version of The Blair Witch Project, you could use it as a flashlight to find your way home. The rest of the camcorder looks equally impressive, from its barrel-like lens equipped with a manual focus ring to its large, embedded microphone and its tape loader located conveniently in the LCD. The LCD is one of the biggest in this roundup, too; at 3.5 inches, it makes playing back video a pleasure.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Good value. Full-featured. EIS, Good image quality. Tape eject when mounted on tripod. USB and Firewire connections.
Weaknesses: None. Higher resolution for the still pictures would be nice but hardly expected for such a low street price.
Overall Evaluation: I'm still exploring the features of this camera, but I don't have any complaints thus far. As I have checked out features like color balance correction, the ability to override the automatic exposure and focus, this camera has the features I need. It also has a wind suppression for the mic, a common feature but still one that many cameras do have have. I picked mine up for $400 new at a sale. However, the low street prices of 500 to 600 still make this a great value.
