Sony SDM-HS73P

Sony's SDM-HS73P is the only monitor tested for July 2004 that earned Outstanding scores in both text and graphics--our jury saw sharp text and richly colored graphics. Realistic skin tones made our group-photo subjects look natural. Advanced settings such as gamma control help you fine-tune the images, and the ability to save user settings allows you to employ different configurations for several users, tasks, or lighting conditions. With its glossy black bezel and arced, silvery stand, the design of this monitor is as pleasing as the screen. However, the stand has tilt adjustment only, so if you often have to adjust monitor height or swivel the screen to share something with a coworker, this model may not be right choice for you. A curved, removable back cover conceals cords, making the SDM-HS73P an elegant desk adornment for any room with an open layout. These good looks will cost you, though--the model commands the highest price of any analog-input monitor on our chart.
Upshot: The elegant Sony SDM-HS73 displays text and graphics superbly, but the attractive stand isn't very adjustable.

Strengths: Absolutely beautiful picture! Hands down the best monitor I have ever seen. I have the SDM-HS73B & I'm pretty sure it has the new XBRITE technology, tho' it's not advertised very well (not on box)
Weaknesses: Mine came with 4 or 5 dead pixels. One is somewhat noticeable. The others are not. I'm sure I could return it, but don't think it's worth the hassle.
Overall: Unreal monitor. The best I have seen . .. EVER! Just make sure that you install the drivers that come with the monitor (and your video card) and set the monitor to its native resolution (1280 x 1024) and you'll be blown away. I can't get over how clean, clear and bright it is! And the blacks are unreal! They are black. Not charcoal gray. Not very very very dark gray. Not almost-totally-black-with-only-SOME-gray . . . I mean BLACK. I got mine at datavis.com, which had the lowest price at the time ($530 after mail-in rebate), but prices should begin to drop, I would think . . .
