IBM ThinkPad X40 Notebook
IBM ThinkPad X40 Review
- In the notebook downsizing race, IBM finally catches up to the competition with the new ThinkPad X40. The thin wedge-shaped unit weighs just 3.2 pounds and measures 1.3 inches tall at the hinges. Fujitsu and Compaq conquered that territory a long time ago with sub-3-pound versions of the LifeBook and Evo, respectively. But this is IBM's thinnest and lightest notebook yet, which should excite ThinkPad fans. And the X40 enjoys one huge trump card over all other ultraportables: It has a great keyboard.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Compact Size, Light Weight, slim design,
Weaknesses: High Price, Small Screen (of course), low LCD resolution, relative short battery life
Overall Evaluation: Overall it's an excellent product! Beside the high price, I like it a lot. The slim design and light weight enable me to carry it whereever I go. The 5400RPM hard disk is definitely the bottle-neck, and the CPU is not powerful enough. LCD only supports 1024*768, however, it should be enough for daily use. Anyway, I love this baby.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Small, light, and excellent performance; long battery life; fast speed
Weaknesses: no touchpad, no firewire interface, and no integrated DVD driver
Overall Evaluation: I have bought it for nearly one and a half months. It is very good! It is convenient to use. I use it to surf on the internet everywhere, even on bed. It offers nearly 6 hours, so sometimes I don't need to bring power line.
