Princeton Senergy 561 15 Review

by Laura Blackwell

Clever control dial lets you adjust monitor's image without looking away from the screen.

Instead of the usual tiny buttons with arcane markings, Princeton's SENergy 561 cleverly conceals a large, serrated-edge control dial behind the right-hand side of the bezel. A tap of the dial brings up the on-screen display menu, and you can tweak settings by dialing forward or backward and tapping. Not only does this leave the bezel clear of distracting buttons, it also leaves you free to look at the screen while you adjust it. Pivot and swivel adjustments--features rarely seen on 15-inch monitors--make this one of the most versatile and easy-to-configure monitors of its size. It's no surprise, then, that the SENergy 561's price ($476 when this review was written) is above the usual range for 15-inch LCDs; indeed, it's significantly higher than that of any unit on our September 2004 chart of 15-inch LCDs, and some 17-inch LCDs on our recent charts have come in with lower prices. The SENergy 561 earned a rating of Good in our text and graphics tests.

Upshot: Easy on-screen tweaks and flexible physical adjustments don't quite justify the SENergy 561's high price.
