LG Electronics Flatron L1710SK
LG Electronics Flatron L1710SK Review
- The Flatron L1710SK is among the few monitors we've tested in the past few months that earned Outstanding scores for both text and graphics quality. When tested at default color temperature, the L1710SK exhibited a pinkish tint that some of our testers found distracting. But in informal tests using the well-organized controls, we found it easy to tweak the settings to suit different tastes. A notable addition to these controls is the L1710SK's LightView button, which provides presets for viewing text, movies, or photos--with different presets to optimize each of these by day or night lighting conditions--along with a user-configurable mode. The price ($399 as of this writing) is one of the lowest we've seen for an LCD monitor of this size--and a very pleasant surprise for a monitor of this quality.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Compact design, great color.
Weaknesses: None so far.
Overall Evaluation: This is one of the best LCDs you can get for the price. There was also a $70 rebate that swayed me.The screen is easily sharp enough to keep it at 1280x1024 resolution and the colors are excellent for an LCD. The screen is also elevated more than the older 1710 models, so that your paperwork or keyboard on your desk can be pushed slightly underneath the monitor, something that is lacking for PC monitors in general.Highly recommended for an entry-level 17" LCD.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: No dead pixels, easy to set up, low price. The tweaking software is handy.
Weaknesses: Text is subpar - very smeary. I'll be returing it since I use Office all day. I'm pretty disappointed, since the review made it sound good.
Overall Evaluation: I would not buy this monitor again - I'm looking at a Sharp. I guess you get what you pay for. If you don't need sharp text then this monitor would be OK.
