Strengths: None

Weaknesses: not reliable

Overall Evaluation: We have had 2 of them in the past 2 months and neither of them worked for more than 2 weeks. Now, it's frozen on one song and we cannot do anything with it. We have tried to work with the seller and have gotten one replacement, but experienced the exact same problems as our original purchase.

Strengths: Design, controls, size

Weaknesses: Prone to harddisk defects, battery not replacable by user, not working smoothly under windows xp, freezes often, no user adjustable equalizer

Overall Evaluation: My ipod lasted for 1 y and 10 month. During this time the machine had to restored at least 5-10 times. Operation with XP and iTunes never worked smoothly, switching to winamp solved the problem partly. It crashed two times completely so that I had to format the drive two times, which is not an easy thing for an unexperienced user. The life time of my ipod ended in a (surprise) harddisk defect. To be fair one has to mention that all harddisk based mp3-player are sensitive products if it comes to the harddisk. I think a flashdrive based player is a saver thing to buy or buy the extended warranty.

Strengths: When you first get it it's great, but...

Weaknesses: poor battery life, crashes constantly, i have had it for 8 months and it's no longer useable. I have replaced it once, and I'm sick of it.

Overall Evaluation: Do not buy an ipod, it's a bunch of hype and you can do better with other products, cheaper and with a replaceable battery.I have 2, the other's battery life is down to 1 hours. I have replaced it also for crashing- and I mean totally fried hard drive. That's 2 ipod's- same problem, replaced, and now the new one's are doing the same things.

Strengths: Intuitive interface, sleek design, variety of accessories

Weaknesses: a battery you can't replace yourself, a poor battery indicator, prone to crashes, freezes and irritating problems.

Overall Evaluation: I love my ipod, oh well my replacement ipod. My original baby died two weeks ago without warning and was replaced within a week by Apple. The last thing it did was show a battery symbol with a ! and then nothing. It wouldn't charge or connec to a computer. I have purchased Applecare and would highly recommended factoring this added cost into the intial purchase price, so you are covered for two years in the event of malfunction (which seems to be a frequent occurance with many users). All in all, the ipod is a great little product but it is not without its problems.

Strengths: Looks good, backlighting a nice touch. Great interface.

Weaknesses: Scratches extremely easily. COMPLETELY DIED AFTER 8 MONTHS.

Overall Evaluation: I barely used this item, and began using it at work to listen to music through computer speakers. I brought it in the next week, and it would not turn on or charge. I don't normally write reviews like this, but my experience was so terrible with something so seemingly revered, I figured I'd add some insight. Unfortunately, I've had other friends with this same problem. I wonder if there will be a class action suit for this Generation as well.I'm done with Ipods, I may post an update with what I end up replacing it with in the coming weeks.
