Strengths: TomTom Go's 3D display is awesome. I initially thought the display would be too small for me but I was very wrong. In fact I'm happy I did not buy a unit with a larger display.
Weaknesses: TomTom maps need to be updated. It doesn't recognize newly constructed roads. Also, it sometimes leads you to blocked roads.
Overall: This product works out of the box with the maps preloaded! It performed flawlessly when I made a trip with it. With updated maps, this unit will be unbeatable!

Strengths: portability, all touch screen, virtually idiot-proof, vivid colors, all maps of whole US and Canada
Weaknesses: sometimes loses a signal, but that seems to be inherently the case with all gps devices; however, this one does seem to quickly find a new satellite and you are back on track.
Overall: Absolutely one of those devices that will make you scratch your head and think, "Why doesn't everyone have this? The service is 100% free--really!! Why didn't I get one earlier? How did I live without it?"

Strengths: touch screen is easy to use. works great in the towns and countrysides. picks up the signal after going through tunnels.
Weaknesses: does not work well in cities with big buildings because the signal is lost often
Overall: My girlfriend has a really hard time with a sense of directions. It is so bad that she has a hard time finding her way to my house from her house. I bought this and gave it to her and now "Tim" (one of the voices)goes with her everywhere and always gets where she has to go.

Overall: Based on some other reviews I read online, I was concerned about the map system being inferior to the Garmin. Having used the product all around South Florida, I have found this not to be the case. I am a big Garmin fan (I own a Garmin marine GPS and depthfinder), but Tom Tom has the edge with this unit. It's more user friendly, better graphical layout, and the maps are spot-on in my area. I'm sure there may be an error here or there, but no mapping system is immune to that. After riding with my Tomtom for 5 minutes, one of my salesmen ordered one online the same day.

Strengths: Cool look and design. Birds-eye perspective a big plus. Maps and POI's are great for my area.
Weaknesses: Unit is cumbersome to pop in and out of holder.
Overall: I began my research on CNET and found that the TomTom Go was not only highly rated but also very affordable. I purchased the unit during a period when a $50 rebate was available. Out the door with expedited shipping and after rebate, the unit cost $590 (I purchased at Comp-U-Plus). First Impressions: Easy instructions, connects to your computer via USB for software uploads. Manufacturers web site provides software updates as well. Can also download additional "voices" (e.g., Valley Girl and Australian). That's pretty neat. Snazzy looking and the touch screen is really cool. Liked the alternate route function and the day/night views. On the road: I live in the Northeast. The satellite signals locked on in about a minute. Every place I've driven, the directions were right on. You can program a Favorite by taking a snapshot of your location and then saving it as a favorite and then labeling it "Christmas Tree Shop". You can add your own POI's like "Shopping Centers" or "Discount Warehouse". Very cool stuff. There is a third party free program that allows you to upload POI's, which is nice. I bought this unit primarily for my wife. We have a baby and when she's driving back and forth to work/day care, I like knowing that she has a "breadcrumb" trail back home or to the hospital or the shopping center or the pediatrician - from anywhere she might be. At the time of purchase; for the price, you simply can't beat it. ******* Update: After having used the unit for the better part of a month now, my initial impressions have not changed much. I have only run into on occasion where the map was not accurate (and that was due to the construction of a new exit on the interstate - no one's fault). Something that my friend pointed out as being a nice feature is when you pass a point where you should turn or take an exit, the unit automatically readjusts its' route to compensate. VERY NICE.
