What You Should Know about the ML-2250 Laser Printer

Monochrome Laser Printers Offer Reliability, Value, Variety to Business Users

A monochrome laser printer such as this one is a business basic. While color inkjet and color laser printers involve more complexity and invite higher print costs, monochrome laser printers are reliable, their toner is cheap, and they come in any size, speed, or price range you'd like. Plain-text printing is its forte; it can't manage anything beyond extremely simple graphics.

A monochrome laser prints by using a laser and rotating mirrors to beam an image indirectly onto a photoconducting drum; attracting toner to that image; and then melting the toner at high temperature to transfer the image to paper.

User Reviews for Samsung ML-2250 Laser Printer

    Duration of ownership: 4 Months

Strengths: Low initial cost of entry

Weaknesses: High cost of maintenance, low contruction quality, very low print quality, toner yield very low, terrible support

Overall Evaluation: This is, hands down, the single worst printer I've ever experienced in over 10 years in the IT industry. Here's just a few of the reasons why: ->Overheats. Badly. Like the surface of the sun. This negatively affects the paper and the toner that come out of the printer, causing sheets to come out looking 'wavy'. ->Paper feed jams *constantly*. Letter, legal, doesn't seem to make a difference - the printer jams at least 50% of the time, and sometimes it jams in such a way as to be difficult to clear. ->No duplex, manual or otherwise. Any attempt to duplex manually will result in a paper jam. ->No accessibility for certain kinds of jamming. You literally need to disassemble part of the printer just to clear a jam. Paper accordions into the printer and becomes very difficult to clear out. ->Advertised as quick warm-up, but in a real-world environment it is painfully slow to warm up. ->Print quality is hands-down the worst I've ever seen. The blacks are closer to gray, there are print voids in the solids (white lines), paper alignment is inconsistent, and this is all with a new cartridge. ->The manual feed pull-down shelf is flimsy. The arms break with regular use. ->Samsung support (the most important issue here) is absolutely horrendous. Their solution to the problem is, after hours on the phone, to send a refurbished printer to replace the unit. 3 printers and 4 print cartridges later, the problems *all* persist. ->The cost of cartridges is exhorbitant. What you save in buying this low-end printer is more than made up with what you'll spend on low-yield, low-quality toner cartridges. Our experience with this printer is truly a sad statement on the quality of Samsung products and support. Pass on this one, research the alternatives.

Strengths: Fast, Toner saver, Cancel button

Weaknesses: warm up can seem slow when I'm waiting.

Overall Evaluation: Very pleased with this printer. The cartridge that came with it has lasted lots longer than I expected. I really appreciate the toner saver button and the cancel button has saved me a number of times already! The print quality is even better that the printer it replaced that cost me over twice as much. Over all - 5 stars!
