Image quality: To gauge picture quality, we take a series of shots, with and without flash, at the camera's highest resolution and default automatic settings. We photograph a complex still life and a mannequin to see how well each camera captures details and subtle colorings such as skin tones. A panel of judges reviews the on-screen and printed photos and assigns image-quality scores; we then average those scores. Data based on tests designed and conducted by the PC World Test Center. User Reviews for Canon PowerShot SD500 Digital Camera (7.1MP, 3072x2304, 3x Opt, 32MB SD Card)

    Duration of ownership: 1 Year

Strengths: 7.1 megapixels, easy to use, compact

Weaknesses: Lacks the 3" LCD screen that the later model SD750 has.

Overall Evaluation: Great little camera for everyone to love. I bought this camera as an upgrade from my Canon S500 which had a 1.5" screen to the SD550 which contains a 2.5" vivid LCD display. I usually set the camera to the highest resolution when taking pictures so that I can zoom in really close on the camera or computer and still have a crystal clear image.

Strengths: Great quality, Easy to use, Good Price, sturdy

Weaknesses: A bit Large for the pocket, other than that awesome camara

Overall Evaluation: Just got the camara a month ago and I dont have any complaints, It starts up quick, takes great pictures, easy to switch to video or other picture settings, easy quick to download from the 2 GB card I bought, which gives me 600+ pictures on the highest setting. 7MP is great to have for cropping and the 16x20 picutes I make for senery shots.
