CTX Technology F773P Review

by Laura Blackwell

Glossy screen and nimble physical adjustments come together in this 17-incher.

Note: Due to unforeseen difficulties, this product is not yet available in the United States.

CTX Technology's $435 F773P places the glossy screen of its F-series monitors on the versatile stand of its P-series monitors. So far, this is the only monitor we've seen that sports both a glossy screen and a full complement of physical adjustments: height, pivot, swivel, and tilt.

PC World test jurors often remark upon the detail and saturated color shown by monitors that have glossy screens. The F773P scored well on our text and graphics tests--earning a rating of Very Good in each category--though it didn't live up to the stellar performance of CTX's previously tested F773. At default settings, colors remained very rich on all graphics screens, but flesh tones appeared unnatural in our group photo of several persons. The F773P also lost some detail in the darkest and lightest areas of the group photo screen.

Unless you look for the included pair of speakers, you might miss them. They reside behind the bezel, so they're not visible from the front. As you might expect of 1-watt speakers, they sounded a bit tinny; I'd have preferred a headphone jack.

Upshot: A full range of physical adjustments and a nice glossy screen make the CTX Technology F773P a comfortable fit for a home user.
