A striking design makes the Razr V3c the supermodel of cell phones; too bad its battery performance is also lightweight.
Motorola Razr V3c
Black Razr V3 GSM Quadband Phone (Unlocked) Review, by Grace Aquino April 19, 2006
Motorola's Razr is one of the few cell phones that all nationwide wireless operators support--but I can see why they do: This standard cell phone looks great, offers high-speed Web browsing, and has a vibrant screen. It's not perfect, however. I encountered poor battery life and inconsistent call quality, plus I got lackluster photos from its camera.
I tested the Razr V3c from Verizon Wireless ($200--as of April 7, 2006--with a two-year agreement), which improves on the original V3 in a couple of ways. First, it comes with a 1.3-megapixel camera. Second, it supports the almost-broadband-level EvDO network, which means faster page loads when you're using the Internet browser.
Of course, the carrier must also support EvDO. My test unit supported Verizon's 3G (third-generation) service and performed well in informal download tests. It streamed music and snippets of video from Verizon's VCast service with scarcely a hitch. The video clips streamed fairly smoothly. The phone does need a minute or two to buffer the data before playing it on screen. And naturally, when the network signal was weak, the downloads took a little longer.
Call quality was fine, but there's room for improvement. Some phone conversations were marred by a hint of noise, making it a hard to hear the speaker at the other end, or vice versa. The speakerphone had adequate volume and worked okay. Unfortunately, the phone's talk-time battery life gave out after only 3 hours, 52 minutes in lab tests.
The V3c's camera is noticeably better than the V3's. In addition to supporting a higher resolution, the V3c provides basic image editing tools such as crop, rotate, add clip art, add text, remove red-eye, and warp. It captured reasonably bright snapshots, but some images looked a little blurry and dull.
Like the original V3: the V3c is a thin, clamshell handset with a metal casing that makes it feel solid. Considering its slim size, it is comfortable to use, thanks in part to the slightly angled upper half, though some users may find the Razr wide compared to other clamshell phones.
The unit has a small external screen and a colorful internal LCD, and it sports an etched keypad with blue backlight. A flat, four-way navigation key includes an enter button in the center. The V3c's keypad differs slightly from the V3's: The V3c comes with a clear key (which works like a backspace key) and a shortcut key for Verizon's VCast, but it lacks a hotkey for the phone menu in the center directly below the screen.
With broadband-like data connections, easy-to-use control buttons, and a striking design, the V3c makes a worthy upgrade. But Motorola still needs to improve the camera, battery life, and call quality.

Strengths: Ability to lock on to weak signals; Thin size and light weight; Ease of creating directory.
Weaknesses: Haven't seen one yet. Despite claims by other reviewers of weak battery life, I have had no trouble with long daily on-times and lengthy calls.
Overall: This is a great phone. I live in a very weak Verizon signal area and could not even get a usable signal for my prior LG phone. The new V3C locks on and gives solid calls at the same point where I could not maintain any calls before. That was an unexpected benefit, as the only reason I renewed my contract with Verizon was great service around the country. Now I have it at home, too.

Strengths: I have a Magenta RAZRV3. The only thing I love besides the color the ability to shoot a video for 10 seconds.
Weaknesses: Worst battery life of any cell phone I've ever had, and I've had one since 1988! Picture storage fills up too fast so you lose photos. I'm constantly charging this thing. Constantly drops calls. Bluetooth wireless calls people when it's not even supposed to be on!
Overall: Besides the Magenta color and video capability, this phone is a HUGE disappointment! I feel like a Dialysis Patient because no matter what I'm doing, I have to charge this phone DAILY! The memory as far as videos is HORRIBLE and just as bad on pictures. I have a Motorola V300 which I LOVE and much prefer over this one! I guess if you're looking for a slim phone that drops calls constantly, this is a thoroughbread!

Strengths: slim, beautiful screen, rare if any dropped calls.
Weaknesses: Rather difficult to figure out, battery life ,
Overall: I live where it is very difficult to get a cell phone signal but this phone is excellent. I have tryed many cell phone brands and types and none of them come close to this phone. There are a few places where it won't pickup but it's not places where i need to use a cellphone anyway so it's not a problem. It is perfect for a college student like myself and after only a month of owning it I think it's definately worth the money!

Strengths: Thin, cool looking, phone with camera and short video
Weaknesses: Difficult to hear, impossible to see screen outside during the day
Overall: I am extremely disappointed with the RAZR. I have had mine a year-and-a-half and it just died on me completely. I have heard of quite a few people with this problem. Of course, the warranty is only one year, so that is that. I would not buy this phone again under any circumstances--even if free!

Overall: THIS PHONE IS A HUNK OF JUNK!!! YOU DON'T EVEN CALL IT A V3 YOU CALL IT A VCA (VERY CRAPPY APPLIANCE). I ONLY HAD IT FOR 2 WEEKS AND IT STUFFED UP. IT SPENDS MORE TIME GETTING FIXED THEN I GET TO USE IT AND I TELL EVERYONE I KNOW NOT TO BUY A MOTOROLA OF ANY SORT. TELSTRA'S POLICY FOR REPAIR OR REPLACEMNT IS RIDICULOUS! YOU SPEND JUST AS MUCH AS IT COST TO BUY THE PHONE TO SEND IT FOR REPAIR IF YOU LIVE IN A REMOTE AREA BEFORE THEY REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER PIECE OF CRAP. TELSTRA TELLS YOU THAT THERE IS NOT MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS MOTOROLA CRAPPAROLA SO WHY DON'T THEY REPLACE IT IMMEDIATELY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Strengths: Great size of screen and keypad
Weaknesses: KEYPAD
Overall: My cell phone is my ONLY phone. It must be reliable. I'm not hard on cell phones. I use it to make calls (maybe 200-300 minutes per month), and take a few pictures and some video. That's it. I purchased a new V3 RAZR on 12/5/05. The screen and keypad were large and easy to read; I enjoyed being able to make calls and see who was calling me without my reading glasses. At Christmas, I received a bluetooth headset, which the phone never recognized. My mistake was assuming this was a headset issue, not the phone. In June 2006, the keypad failed. Only ON/OFF and zero worked. Since I had not purchased the insurance, I was not eligible for a new Razr. I was sent reconditioned handsets.First handset: Keypad failed in four weeks; Second handset: Keypad failed in three weeks;Third handset: Stopped taking pictures and video; I had to turn the phone off to get out of that mode. This was NOT acceptable as I enjoyed taking pictures of my grandchild.Fourth handset: Keypad failure in 48 HOURSAt this point, I was given a choice: Another reconditioned V3 Razr or a (new) different model phone (Slivr). I accepted the new Slivr, with which I am NOT thrilled. I HAVE to wear my reading glasses to use it.

Overall: I purchased this phone through Verizon on October fifth 2006 and within two moths had problems with it. It would not charge so I brought the phone into a Verizon dealer on December 7th 2006 and they said the phone had water damage. I don't see how, because I am careful with my phones. So they gave me a new one. When I brought this one home I charged it and I took into to work with me the next day. The charge was down to one bar by 4:00 p.m. I had not even used the phone. I was going to go back to Verizon again, but decided to wait. It was the Xmas season and I was busy. I brought it in after the 1st of the year. They said water damage again. Hello!!!!!!!!!!!! So unless I sweat profusely or sit the dam phone in the sink or toilet, how could I be so careless. I have had other phones in the past and have never experienced this issue. They told me I had to file a claim to get a new one. Thank god i had insurance. I did not want another Motorola V3 piece of crap phone. I called Verizon back and asked if I could reconnect my last phone which was an LG and they said okay. I'm very thankful I could do this. For all that is said and done. Who has time to run back and forth over a stupid phone, because it is the lastest trendy phone. Who cares. I just want what I bought to work and not consume my valuable time by running around trying to resolve phone issues. Motorola V3 Is the pit of epitome.
