Strengths: Price, quality, and size
Weaknesses: A little noisy
Overall Evaluation: I purchased this printer because it was cheaper than the ink carthriges cost for my Dell 870 printer. It seems to be a better quality printer also. It prints photos very well with high quality photo paper.

Strengths: Good price, ok photo quality, compact
Weaknesses: no output tray, no usb cable
Overall Evaluation: Got it almost free from a combo buy together with an ibook notebook. The printer is still good enough for small volume family use. Photos come out colorful and clean, and printing speed is not bad at all. I don't often print large number of photos at home, and this printer just serves a backup. No output tray and the usb cable doesn't come along either, which perhaps is what free means.Anyway, it's a nice printer, i am satisfied with it so far.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Inexpensive, decent print speed, good text (black) output, acceptable color print quality (web pages).
Weaknesses: No output tray, single color ink cartridge, small input tray capacity, no USB cable, ink cartridges exhaust quickly, unit feels somewhat flimsy.
Overall Evaluation: I bought this printer as part of a PC/printer combo deal. Received it free after rebate ($50), so I wasn't expecting much. I recently moved and needed a semi-portable printer while living in temporary quarters, so I decided to use the ip1600 for these purposes. My printing was almost exclusively black text, w/ perhaps a few color web pages, so I can't speak to the color *photo* quality. But for an expendable, cheapo printer, it worked well enough. Prints w/ decent speed and good quality text output. Color web pages were clean and crisp. Handles envelopes well too. Lack of an output tray may be annoying for long term use. Given my overall impressions of this printer, I would never pay more than $20 (after rebates/coupons) for it. There are just too many better printers that can be had for just a few bucks more. Ink cartridges seemed to exhaust themselves rather quickly too, so long term ink costs could negate any upfront savings anyway. It's just a very basic, no frills, ok printer.

Strengths: Cheap, easy to use and install, small
Weaknesses: Expensive ink, no output tray, no usb cable
Overall Evaluation: Bought this as a printer for a second computer. Works OK, no major problems. Easy to install. If you need a cheap printer that does what you need, just pick this up. This is good for the occasional photo, but I use it mostly with documents. Get a higher quality printer if you want to use it for photos. Be warned... the ink tanks are PRICEY. This printer uses newer ink tank technology (I don't know much about it, but I did know about it before buying). Not sure if you can buy ink tanks at those "cheap" ink stores, last I checked I couldn't find them. So I try not to waste the ink, only print when I need to. There's no tray on this printer, so be sure the area is clear in front of the printer. And of course, no usb cable in my box (seems the norm for printers). But you can pick them up for cheap at various online stores.

Strengths: acceptable quality, compact design
Weaknesses: Not suitable for someone looking for high-quality printing
Overall Evaluation: I got this printer as a bundle purchase with Mac Mini around Christmas, so basically this printer was free along with a purchase of the computer after rebate. The printer quality is OK and the printer doesn't need much desktop space. But if you would like to invest a little more for a printer, you should find more better options. For a free printer, I have no complaint.
