Canon PIXMA iP4200 Photo Inkjet Printer (29 PPM, 9600x2400 DPI, Color, 42KB, PC/Mac)
Canon Pixma iP4200 Review
- The Canon Pixma iP4200 prints high-quality glossy photos quickly, but it's just as well suited for printing office documents. For $130, you get strong black text, double-sided printing, and dual paper trays. In our tests the iP4200 printed documents at breakneck speed, but the quality of its plain-paper output barely improved on that of its predecessor, the iP4000.

Strengths: good quality text
Weaknesses: expensive ink and a chip that prevents use of non Canon ink or refilled tanks
Overall Evaluation: The problem with this printer is the chip on the ink tanks that prevents use of non-Canon or refilled ink tanks. The printer eventually [after the warranty has expired] refuses to recognize even Canon ink tanks. It stops printing and the only way to fix it is to install a brand new tank, but after a couple of months the printer won't recognize that tank either even if is still full.

Strengths: For me it has to be the duplexing capability. Also, ink is alittle more than half the price of the epson inks of my last two printers which went belly up on me at about a year. The inks seem to last alittle longer than the Epsons. It's easier, for me at least, to stop the printing mid-cycle than the Epsons. Flashing lights indicate low ink tanks (as well as an on screen warning). A slow blink means it's time to by new ink. Afaster blink means it's really really time for new ink. As for the media slots, I save all my pictures to my computer anyway and that has more slots than I know what to do with. And as for the foot print, it's not all that much pore than my last two printers.
Weaknesses: The pause to let the ink dry between sides is something to consider when printing large files. If I want something with alot of pages in PDF, I do the odd side / even side trick. Having said that, twice in the past month, when switching over a large stack of papers, the first page didn't go in straight and jammed. Make sure the papers are straight when loading.
Overall Evaluation: After a little more than ten mounths, I still love it.
