Adobe Photoshop Elements 4

  Strengths: Can do anything most people could ever need to make award winning images.

  Weaknesses: haven't found any for what I use it for, i.e. correct, manipulate and print images.

  Overall: I am a very serious, successful, amateur photographer. Have been using Elements 4.0 for several years. Most images are printed as large as possible on 13" x 19" paper. El 4.0 has excellent selection, cropping, rotating, cloning, etc. tools. Full layers capability. Several color correction tools. Many, many effect filters. I teach printing at local camera club and recommend this - why spend as much for software as you did for your camera

  Strengths: Easy to learn.Good tutorials. PSE4 website help available.

  Weaknesses: None found yet. Just learning the program.

  Overall: PSE4 is my first experience with Adobe products or any other type of digital processing software. There are many good tools in PSE4, and are fairly easy to use. I'm sure the more familiar I become with all the functions; I will be very happy I made the purchase.

  Strengths: Great service

  Weaknesses: None that I know of.

  Overall: We ordered the product and received it in about 5-7 days as promised. No problems. We would order from him again. I have nothing more to said, but this comment section requires you to put at least 30 words in it's section, so I hope this will work. That's the only problem that I have had with this purchase, is this comment section, and that's not his fault.

  Strengths: Great for the casual user; can crop and correct several common flaws

  Weaknesses: unable to match the color profile of your printer or your one hour photo center

  Overall: The Elements version does not have the capability to download the ICC color profile that your one hour photo center uses. This means that the colors that you edit on your computer will most likely NOT match what you will get from your printer or your one hour photo center. I recommend that you use the default settings and that you make no attempts at color correction unless you are willing to endure an arduous trial and error process. In short, if you want to do color correction then you must purchase the CS2 version of photoshop.

  Strengths: Easy to use editing tools. New straighten tool.

  Weaknesses: Cannot sort photos by name. Using catalog to track pictures is cumbersome.

  Overall: I first became interested in Elements 4.0 because of the Straighten Tool which can automatically rotate and crop to straighten pictures with slanted horizons (of which I seem to have many). I downloaded a demo version to try before buying. Unfortunately, I found that Elements 4.0 cannot sort files by name which ended up making it a non-starter for me. They have something called the Photo Organizer that uses a catalog to keep track of your photos and it only sorts by date. You tag your photos and put them into categories. The catalog would not synch up properly when I deleted files from my hard drive. Anyway, I ended up buying Elements 3.0 and I am very happy with it. In addition to the Photo Organizer, it has a File Browser which I can use with the Editor to bypass the Photo Organizer completely. It allows sorting by name so I can easily work with my photos! It has many of the same easy to use tools as Elements 4.0 but unfortunately not the Straighten Tool.
