Roxio Easy Media Creator 8

Strengths: Easy navigation and burning.

Weaknesses: Will conflict with other DVD burning software.

Overall: My computer kept crashing and I finally found out that Easy Media Creator may be the problem. When I uninstalled Easy Media Creator my system no longer recognized my DVD burners. I found on-line that Roxio products do this and I tried the registry fix and it did not work. Even Microsoft has a warning about Roxio products doing this but I found out to late. The only solution is to reload Windows. Good luck getting help from Roxio. They will not acknowledge any problem. It is strange how I reloaded all my software except Easy Media Creator and I have no more crashes and my DVD burners work again. After the many hours of frustration and loss of files I will not ever buy a Roxio or Sonic(same company) product again. I will not suggest another option but you would be wise to steer clear of Roxio.

Overall: BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT, I love the click and drag to burn. Can't wait to try it when I convert my old LP's. The product is more than I bargained for.

Overall: Version 9 is new and available at Roxio's website; it will eventually move to various merchants. V9 includes Blu-ray technology. I recently upgraded from V7 to V8 and find it works very well and offers multiple features. It has a persistent disk scanner that continuously runs in the background, but if you wish to disable it in XP Pro, look for the Roxio Hard Drive Watcher service.

Strengths: Helps you become productive as the software is stable and has the tools to edit and back up

Weaknesses: Can't convert to some new portable devices

Overall: Software is supposed to help us become more efficient and productive. Yet there are too many programs which don't have the basics of user interface incorporated. Not so here. I am thrilled that I've found a program which I could instantly understand and start producing. The photo editor is as good as most ones I've used. It doesn't really veer far from the usual interface so experienced users can adapt quickly.

Strengths: Attractive pricing, which I'll explain later, realistic menus for all tech levels

Weaknesses: utilities are serviceable but nothing special

Overall: Looking at the price, not only is it comparable to other suites, but if you look at the individual program prices, the suite is the best deal. It's not much more than purchasing just one component like MyDVD so the whole suite is worthwhile. And trust me, you will end up using more than one program. I don't have the latest stand alone version of MYDVD so I don't know if the suite version is exactly the same. The advantage of having it in a suite is that you can muss around with the digital files and then jump to the disc authoring program. The Suite saves users from opening and closing various programs.
