User Reviews for NEC MultiSync 90GX2

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Very bright! Clean, crisp colors. I personally love the glossy finish. I was reluctant to go with an lCD because I liked the glass finish on my old Sony monitor. This NEC is simple to adjust.

Weaknesses: Annoying resolution notifier, though it can be turned off in settings menu

Overall Evaluation: All considered, this was a great purchase! It's like having the performance of a CRT without having the size or power comsumption. Bought at Best Buy for $259 open box.

Strengths: Great colors, very bright but can tune it down with the monitor settings.

Weaknesses: Refresh rate is at 75hz a second... maybe its too slow? but I can be clearly visible that the monitor is refreshing itself...

Overall Evaluation: Sparks of bright white lines appear form top to bottom shining constantly that gives your eyes the same discomforting effect when you watch TV with all the lights off at night, Or the blinking light in a trance club that just won't stop. I'm about to send the product back and exchange for a new one. But if anyone out there can help.. please leave me a comment.. otherwise its a great product.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: 400 nits of brightness(best in its class), 700:1 contrast ratio, NO DEAD PIXELS, both analog and DVI inputs, all cables included, USB ports. The WHT/SLV model is exquisite in its appearance.

    Weaknesses: none

Overall Evaluation: If you work in an area that will not cause reflection, this is by far the sharpest monitor you can get. Forget the rest - this is the best. Out of the box, it is too bright for me - better than not bright enough - easily adjustable to your preferences. Clarity is outstanding for both pictures and text. There is no ghosting or backlite edge bleeding. Larger viewable area than a standard 19" CRT. Low power requirements and when on standyby, only uses 2 watts - runs almost without any heat coming from the back which should mean longer life. THREE year warrantee. This is the very best. Compared to my old Sharp LCD, there is no comparison, the 90GX2 is absolutely stunning - it is like the difference between color and black and white TV.

Strengths: Brillant image, USB ports on the side and in the back are a plus and conveinent. Along with the other features, the Specs,USB ports and style of this monitor sealed the deal to purchase it.

Weaknesses: Viewing angle is adjusted by tilting screen up/down, left to right. Monitor height cannot be raised.

Overall Evaluation: As I owned NEC monitors before and enjoyed the products, I am confident that the 90GX2 will fall into that catagory for me. Would recommend that this monitor be considered in your upgrade to a 19" LCD.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: brilliant color and contrast; 4ms quoted response time is great for games/movies; dual inputs; NaviSet software; USB hub; cable management

Weaknesses: pricier than other TN 19" LCDs; will have noticeable glare when used in brightly lit (sunlight/artificially-lit) room

Overall Evaluation: This is a 6-bit TN panel (as opposed to 8-bit "true color" IPS/PVA) but don't let that stop you from buying it. The brightness (400 cd/m2) and contrast (700:1) combination makes for excellent image quality. The colors are very vibrant most likely due to NEC's OptiClear technology and lack of anti-glare (anti-glare added to monitors usually degrades color quality). The 4ms response time ensures no ghosting - I have not noticed any. Playing games and 720P HD movies really showcases the quality. There are few 8-bit panels on the market but I don't think they are worth buying because:1) they're much pricier for very little gain in image quality (most also come with anti-glare)2) they typically sacrifice response time in favor of 8-bit "true" color. I have yet to see an 4ms 8-bit IPS/PVA panel. The NaviSet software (which can be downloaded from NEC's website) adds some pretty useful features. There is no height adjustment which would have been nice because I keep a center speaker in front of the monitor but this was easily solved by placing the monitor on top of a thick unused book. The ability to use this monitor simultaneously with 2 computers (one using DVI-D and the other using D-SUB) adds to the value. The USB hub makes connecting a keyboard and mouse clutter free. As an added useful feature, the monitor also provides you the ability to channel all wiring through the panel stand again to avoid cable-clutter. The NEC mail-in rebate was also added incentive. If you are in a brightly lit environment and cannot turn off the lighting, you might think twice before buying. This monitor is best used when placed so that there is no glare. If this is not an issue, I highly recommend this monitor.
