User Reviews for Epson Epson Stylus CX7800 All-In-One

    Duration of ownership: 10 Months

Strengths: Ease of scanning; quick copies; price

Weaknesses: Print speed; print quality in normal or draft mode; high ink consumption

Overall Evaluation: The Epson CX7800 is a very inexpensive multifunction ink jet printer. It's paper-handling is so-so. And, it's one of the slowest printers I've owned in the past 20 years! A simple text b/w document printed at normal resolution on plain paper takes forever - the printer seems to go through lots and lots of cycles before the printing even starts. I am familiar with the auto-sensing feature on some H-P printers but the Epson doesn't have that feature - there is NO auto-paper Select ... you set the paper type but the CX7800 still seems to be doing something before and sometimes even during a print cycle! Color prints are good quality - it has a borderless feature that is burried in the print menu. And, if you think simple text printing is s l o w ... photo's come out nicely at the higher quality settings but take forever. Bottom line, if average printing quality is OK for your needs, if you have no need to get through a print job quickly, and there is a good sale at your favorite etailer or store, the Epson's are an OK buy. Otherwise shop and buy another brand. When this puppy breaks down I'll go elsewhere.

Strengths: It has all the features of a good mutifuntion printer and has 4 diffrent ink colors.

Weaknesses: nosisy as I sleep with a roommate and I print stuff when he is sleeping

Overall Evaluation: overall this printer satisfied my needs for a All in one. It is a little big, as I'm in college and space is a huge thing, but what can you do. It has a sleek design which was the main reason I bought it and it also seems to print very well. overall it was a good choice for me anyways.

Strengths: good at copying and basic print jobs

Weaknesses: terrible customer service see comments

Overall Evaluation: I got one of these at local discount club and Epson was offering a 30.00 rebate - I sent it in and there was no disclaimer on the form saying "club" purchases excluded but now they say they are not going to pay because of that- even though I pointed out there was no such notice at the timeI have called both their rebate hotline and their us hdqtrs and they have been no help- I was even thinking of getting another of their products but not now-BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE

    Strengths: Printing when it worked.

Weaknesses: Print heads clog & paper would not feed

Overall Evaluation: This is a good printer when it worked. Bought in April 06 & it was dead in June 06. Always heard about the Epson ink problems but hoped they would of fixed it. On June 10th went to pring & the paper would not feed. After about 10 attempts it printed. Then the ink was messed up. Found 3 ink heads were clogged. Couldn't get them uncloggged or solve the paper feeding problem, so the printer is in the garage & I replaced it with a HP print. Always had HP & in 25 years never had a problem. Bought this Epson & died in 2 months.

Strengths: Multi function... when it works

Weaknesses: Manufacture Quality. Scanner/copier breaks down and paper sometimes jams.

Overall Evaluation: I am now on my 3rd CX7800 printer/scanner. The first unit (purchased new direct from Epson website) worked for about a month then the scanner/copier function stopped working. Epson has no published 800 number so the call for tech assist is at your expense. They sent me a rebuilt CX7800 as a replacement and the copy/scan function did not work the day I got it... meaning another call at my expense and another rebuilt replacement.. and in less than 2 months that replacement unit broke down (same issue... scan/copy broke). I am typing this as I sit on hold with Epson customer relations (20 minutes so far) trying to get a refund.

    Strengths: Excellent print quality

Weaknesses: A little slow and a bit noisy, but doesn't really bother me

Overall Evaluation: This printer, being my 4th from Epson, is excellent! I started off with an Epson CX3200 back in the day, went to a CX5400, then to a CX6600. I had to part with the last one because of a header problem, but this CX7800 is the best Epson AIO yet! One nice thing this printer includes is a device for scanning negatives and slides. Although it doesn't include a USB cable, they're incredibly cheap nowadays (you can often find them at a local dollar store). Epson brand cartridges are spendy, so I chose to buy generic ones and they're working just as well as OEM carts. EZinkjets.com is a great place for generic Epson ink, and they always have coupon codes posted right on their site.

What You Should Know about the Epson Stylus CX7800 All-In-One

Inkjets Print Photos Well, And Decent Looking Text, Too

Inkjet printers like this one are commonly used in a home or student setting as well as in a small office. Printing photos is their strongest suit, although they can also print decent to good-looking plain text. For the best results, you usually need to use specially coated papers.

Inkjet printers spray ink through microscopic nozzles arrayed on a print head. Because the printhead has to move back and forth across the page, inkjets can be slow--especially when printing those nice photos.

Ink type affects print quality. Dye-based inks (color dissolved in liquid) tend to create better-looking colors, but they’re less light- and water-resistant. Pigment-based inks (solid color particles suspended in liquid) create images that are more durable but not quite as colorful. Some inkjet printers use both: a pigment-based black for crisp text quality, for instance, but dye-based colors for better-looking graphics.

Ink cartridges come in two basic designs. The colors (cyan, magenta, and yellow) can come in a unified “tricolor” cartridge or in separate cartridges. There’s always a separate black. The tricolor cartridges are more compact, but they’re also wasteful because you have to replace the entire cartridge whenever you run out of any one color. Some printers offer additional colors, such as light cyan or light magenta, to widen the color palette.
