HP Officejet 7410 All-in-One
OfficeJet 7410 All-In-One Inkjet Printer (30 PPM, 4800x1200 DPI, Color, 16MB, PC/Mac) Review, by Paul Jasper January 11, 2006
The HP Officejet 7410 All-in-One has all the features of HP's Officejet 7210 and then adds some, making it an excellent fit for a small office.
Priced at the higher end of the scale, the unit offers the following in return for the added investment: wireless networking, a 2.5-inch color LCD, a duplexer, an additional paper tray, and a bigger scanning area. While you can hook the 7410 up to a single PC via its USB port or plug it into the office ethernet, the unit's built-in Wi-Fi will make it appeal most to a workgroup of notebook users who aren't tied to their desks.
Besides providing printing and scanning functions, the 7410 offers stand-alone faxing and a 50-sheet automatic document feeder that makes multipage copying easier. The 7410 can fax in color, and it can hold 150 a??pages in memory for incoming faxes, in case the paper runs out while you're not there. To print photos without a computer, you can either attach a PictBridge-compatible digital camera to the 7410's direct-print port or slide your camera's memory card into one of four slots, which between them are capable of reading all the major formats. The 7410 doesn't let you read images from a USB flash drive attached to the direct-print port, but you can plug in a $60 Bluetooth adapter that lets you print from suitably equipped phones and PDAs.
The 2.5-inch color LCD is a major improvement over the 7210's two-line alphanumeric LCD. It sits at the center of the control panel, surrounded by sets of buttons sensibly arranged by task (fax, copy, photo, scan, and print). A numeric keypad lets you dial fax numbers, and there are five programmable speed-dial buttons. In addition to using the monitor to preview your images, you can print an index proof sheet, fill in a special mark under each image you want to print, and then scan that sheet to initiate the print job.
The 7210's optional 250-sheet paper tray comes standard with the 7410, giving it a maximum capacity of 400 sheets of plain paper. The duplexer lets you save paper by automatically printing on both sides. While most of the 7410's rivals have letter-size scanning beds, this unit lets you lay down books and documents up to legal size.
Out of the box, the 7410 comes with a pigment-black cartridge designed for high-quality text and a tricolor cartridge. However, you can print with up to six inks by swapping out the pigment black cartridge and substituting a photo color cartridge containing light cyan, light magenta, and a dye-based black. For printing black-and-white photos, HP offers a photo-gray cartridge.
The 7410 is a capable printer, especially when printing black-and-white documents with its pigment ink. We saw nice, dense text with relatively sharp edges. Our challenging line-art test was almost flawless, with just a little horizontal banding that looked more like a wavy watermark. Prints of color graphics weren't quite as good: Images looked a little fuzzy, with slightly dull colors. Using all six inks on glossy paper gave us wonderful photos, with natural-looking skin tones, vivid colors, and superb shadow detail. This isn't the fastest inkjet printer, but results of 6.9 pages per minute for text and 2.1 ppm for graphics do place it above the norm. Our color photo printed on letter-size glossy paper in a speedy 67 seconds.
Our judges awarded a top score to the 7410's scan of our monochrome-resolution test chart. However, when scanning color photos and text documents more like those it will encounter in everyday use, the unit performed less well. Scan speed was not especially fast, with our 4-by-5-inch color photomontage taking 11 seconds (not including the preview). As a copier, the 7410 was both fast and precise.
Upshot: Whether you're connecting wirelessly to print and scan, or just making copies, the HP Officejet 7410 All-in-One delivers fine quality and excellent paper handling.

Duration of ownership: 8 Months
Strengths: Clean Prints Easy set-up
Weaknesses: Auto feed weak Broke down in 8 months
Overall: Total failure with ghost carriage jam. When HP couldn't fix with resets, they refused to cover under warranty. I get to eat $500 for a so-so boat anchor. Next time I'll buy a Lexmark at half the price for twice the printer.

Duration of ownership: 5 Months
Strengths: Great speed, color, clarity. ADF works well. Exceeds expectations at all levels.
Weaknesses: BEWARE!! The ink level indicators will NOT work if you remove and then reinsert a cartridge. THAT CARTRIDGE WILL NEVER DISPLAY AN INK LEVEL AGAIN. Also. the 7410 is extremely sensative when reading colored pages through the ADF. It will pick up and record as straight lines minute particles of dust you cannot see with the naked eye. If you then test it with a black and white copy of the same thing it will come out perfect. DON'T COUNT ON THE HP SUPPORT. THEY WILL WASTE YOIUR TIME (HOURS), LEAD YOU IN THE WRONG DIRECTION, AND THEN MAKE A "PRETEND" APPOINTMENT TO CALL YOU BACK.
Overall: The equipment is superior except for the ink level indicator system. It is fast, makes sharp, clear copies in both black and white and color, and is really easy to use. The ADF works surprisingly well. It needs a slot to enable you to easily feed a single envelope but otherwise the 7410 seems perfect.

Strengths: All features easy to use until carriage broke after 16 months usage.
Weaknesses: HP does not support this product with repair parts. Carriage broke after less than 1000 copies and could not be repaired or replaced.
Overall: The HP 7410 is a piece of junk and mechanical failures are not supported by HP. Printer was for home use for 16 months and less than 1000 copies. When carriage malfunctioned, HP did not have a replacement part. Printer was useless and HP gave no satisfaction since i did not have an extended warranty. Do not purchase this product without the extended warranty.

Strengths: Very robust. Easy to setup wireless. Color is great.
Weaknesses: Paper trays seem small, could be larger.
Overall: I am very satisfied and pleased with this quality product that I purchased. It is easy to setup and use. Several people use the OfficeJet 7410 with me; we use it everyday and depend on it. It has never let us down.

Strengths: It prints and photocopies "ok"
Weaknesses: Can't receive faxes; scanner is marginal at best; flash card ports don't work; software "sucks"
Overall: Owned two years. Made 53 calls for tech support. Every time I tried to download pics from card slots, had to uninstall and reinstall software. Can send but not receive faxes. In 67 years, I've never had a worse consumer product or service. HP SIMPLY DOES NOT DELIVER IT'S PROMISE. I'LL NEVER OWN ANOTHER HP ANYTHING, PERIOD !!!!!!!!!!!

Strengths: Not very expensive to operate
Weaknesses: Feeder jams too frequently
Overall: After having 3 HP all-in-ones I decided to try a fourth. There is virtually no difference in the quality of these machines. This one in particular, however, didn't make it the first year without some of the same traits found in the previous systems. The feeder jams and faxing documents has been nothing short of a chore on a consistant basis. If it's the occasional fax you need, this is a fine machine; any more than that- look elsewhere...

Strengths: I have found the HP7410 excellent
Weaknesses: I wish they made the room to fit the other cartridges in it also instead having to swap.
Overall: I have owed alot of HP machines at least 2 printers and 7 multifunction machines and the 7410 is by far the best yet.I never seen any of my machines fax or print as fast as this one,I can not believe the features on the machine the color screen is crisp and clear.it has a very nice layout, and the keys are spread far enough apart where you don't hit other one's by mistake I have big hands (6'2" 375lbs)and I have no problems on it at all.I love the double stack paper feed (400 sheets) you don't have to keep refilling it all the time. The design is very nice again well laid out and a sharp looking machine does not look cheap like other machines I have seen. I think hearing people talking trash about it really don't know much about machines at all and they really don't know how to use a machine to it's fullest capibility.I don't need to use a machine for a month or two to see how it is,I can usually tell it about 10-15 minutes if it is a good machine.I have also owed canon's and epson's my first machine's before I had my HP'S and I will always stick to my HP'S. Again hp takes the cake even on styling and functions I always say it Hp machines never let me down and this 7410 just reassures me why I buy HP. I am so Glad that I got the 7410 it again is a HP(How Perfect). Joe D
