BitDefender 9 Standard is inexpensive, easy to use, and effective at detecting malware threats; as a result, it earned PC World's Best Buy distinction in "The New Virus Fighters" roundup of ten antivirus products.
Top-ranked in our performance tests, BitDefender 9 achieved the best scores in our heuristics tests--detecting 43 percent of worms and 57 percent of backdoor programs using one-month-old virus data and 18 percent of worms and 42 percent of backdoors using two-month-old virus data. It also earned top-notch scores in our zoo tests, catching more than 93 percent of the backdoors, bots, and Trojan horses. However, BitDefender's scan-speed results ranked second to last, averaging just over 9 minutes and 16 seconds to scan the files on our test PC.
At first glance, the BitDefender interface appears lacking. The General information tab gives you only of basic information about your last system scan and software update. The real information lies in the Antivirus and Update tabs, which you access on the left side of the screen. There you'll find deeper options for specifying the way you want the program to look on screen, the way it sends you virus data, and how it scans files.
Upshot: BitDefender 9 earns our Best Buy distinction due to its easy navigation, superior performance, and low price.

Strengths: Great Anti-Virus (not slow at all) and anti-syware as good as webroot!!!

Weaknesses: Slows incoming email quite a bit. Poor Customer Service with premature expiration problems
Overall: I guess the program worked OK but after only 5 months it expired. When emailing Bit Defender's customer service they responded a couple days later stating they've had a problem with their key codes. They gave me a temporary one to use which wasn't accepted. They then sent a patch that did nothing to update my expiration date. I'm now waiting, going on 3 days, for a reply from Bit Defender on what to do next since they haven't solved my problem. Soon I will have to go out and buy another program if I don't hear from them. Too Much Trouble

Strengths: A complete and a effective antivirus. It shows everytime one software tries to get conneted through internet.
Weaknesses: Had a problem with a sudden license expiration. Had to wait 3 days before getting an answer and a solving patch
Overall: A good antivirus with daily updates of the virus definitons. But for a bug with the license expiration date, a product I would recommend.

Overall: For close to 3 mo. now I have been trying to find out what happend when I tried to download the new version of bit defender. It apparently removed some files that were needed to download the new version. There tech support had me send a copy of the error report and the files on my computer pertaining to bitdefender. All they can tell me is my files are corrpted. I am well aware of this! Thanks to PC World I am running a free version untill I getb my money back from bitdefender but as of yet sales has not returned my email.
