Strengths: It's Free. I also get updates daily. I'm thinking of trying the paid version.
Weaknesses: Most of the features are in the paid version, but what do want for free!
Overall Evaluation: My ISP gave me McAfee which constantly shut down its firewall, so I removed it or least tried. It is almost impossible to completely remove McAfee. I also bought a new laptop with Norton installed which shut off windows security and is hard to uninstall. AVG free may not be the prettiest Anti-Virus out there but I've had bad experiences with the two big ones. If I decide to go with a suite I know that I will pass on both Norton and McAfee from having used both of them in the past. BTW I've tried to get rid of both of the big two and replace them with freeware.

Strengths: Gets the job done with no muss and no fuss.
Weaknesses: Interface somewhat confusing.
Overall Evaluation: Have tried most packages - from the bloated (and difficult to flush) McAfee and Norton to a couple of the Scandinavian offerings. Was attracted to AVG by several people who use the free version (wihtout difficulty). An intial scan (with the free version) found half a dozen bugs that the others missed. Have sinced purchased the full version and I continue to install the free version for casual computer users who may have been without virus protection and / or don't care to purchase. Recommended.

Strengths: It has saved my computer and found more virus's worms and stuff Than any other software out there
Weaknesses: none that I have found
Overall Evaluation: This is GREAT software I have used the copy of it on a usb port Stick to find and get rid of bugs on a different computer which was having problems with the anti virus and anti worm software they were using ( called NORTONS ) This software AVG has pulled me off the net and shut down the computer ( screen turned a bright red and said this has blah blah worm ) ! I beleive in it neveer has failed YET ! The blog some one wrote about using 1 month old updates was weird why would you not let the software update every week or day as it needs to ? I let it do its own up date and if I have not seen a UPDATE screen come up for a while I up date manually ! !

Strengths: Fast
Weaknesses: Perhaps not as comprehensive as some others, especially in the heuristic viruses (which are rare virsues anyway)
Overall Evaluation: Outstanding. Catches viruses. Is fast. I am using the paid version, not the free version.

Strengths: Easy Interface, scheduled scans, free.
Weaknesses: None
Overall Evaluation: I've purchased McAfee, Norton, etc., etc., in the past. They worked well, but expired after one year and I could not uninstall McAfee's annoying expiration reminder, even after uninstalling. I would recommend anyone who reads this review to try AVG and then compare to the other annoying and costly antivirus programs. If it doesn't work for you, then uninstall it. This works with AVG. I have absolutely no affiliation with the company, just a satisfied user, who appreciates a fine product. Especially when it is given to me for free! AVG also has an a very good e-mail program, Thunderbird. I receive absolutely no spam or ads with this program. It is also free!
Grisoft AVG Free Edition 7.1 Review
- None of the three free antivirus products tested for the "The New Virus Fighters" ranked highly, but Grisoft's AVG Antivirus Free Edition holds the distinct honor of having placed last among all ten paid and free contenders due to a clunky interface, the omission of significant features, and below-average performance.
