This model's image adjustment tools include color temperature, saturation, and white peak, as well as a selection of display modes that automatically adjust gamma and brightness. We couldn't take full advantage of those controls in our formal tests, but in informal tests adjusting some of them did improve image quality.

At 7.8 pounds, the CX6 is among the heaviest portable models we examined for our April 2006 issue's projector roundup. Nevertheless, it is compact enough that you can easily tote it from room to room as needed. The package includes cables for USB, computer (DVI and VGA), S-Video, and audio connections. The unit comes with a remote control; we liked the remote's laser pointer and full mouse control, but the buttons' responsiveness was a bit sluggish.

The built-in 2-watt speaker is fine for presentation sound effects, but we'd want a stronger sound system for viewing movies. Microtek provides a one-year warranty for the CX6, whereas most vendors back their projectors with a two- or three-year warranty.

Upshot: The Microtek CX6, though a bit heavy, is a great value for budget-minded users who want a crossover projector for business and home.
