What You Should Know about the Inspiron E1705

Not Much RAM for Multitasking

The more RAM your laptop has, the faster programs will run and the greater number of windows you can work in at one time. If your needs are simple and you rarely do more than two things at once on your PC, the relatively modest amount of memory that comes installed in inexpensive laptops will be enough. Today the standard amount of RAM shipped in most PCs is 2GB. If you like to multitask--say, you want to launch a search for a file and start backing up data to a disc while you watch a news video--you need more memory.

Strengths: Once I returned the first one the new one works great. It is very easy to work on as well as play games. Clean layout. Nice true life 17" display.

Weaknesses: 1 Gig of ram not enough with Vista. Get 2. My first E1705 was junk. Returned it 2 weeks after I got it. The new one has been great. More problems with Vista than the computer.

Overall Evaluation: Not as heavy as my Inspiron 8100 & yet bigger. I like the "True Life" display. Rich! Keyboard layout takes some getting used to. Very high up in the footprint. Battery life is poor. Bad problems with the first one. Driver issues and video card problems. Should have got Nvidia graphics. ATI is ok. Sound is average. Paid for the upgrage but not impressed. Overall a good machine.

    Strengths: Powerhouse/ functional deisign/ great screen/

Weaknesses: After 6 weeks crash of harddrive, video card and motherboard.61/2 hours on phone with TECH Support/ offered to replace it with a refurbished one. Had to complain for another 2 hours 2nd tier support/ FINALLY said would have a Tier 3 support call tommorrow to see if they can replace the system with a new one.....will let you all know. As a Doctor....I could have bought a new one with the hours I lost.

Overall Evaluation: If it works...it is great.
