Top-of-the-line audio quality for a low price. It includes an armband, but the earbuds are so-so. Uses one AAA battery.
Creative Zen Nano Plus
Zen Nano Plus 1GB MP3 Player - Black (Internal Flash, FM Tuner, 18 Hours) Review, by Eric Dahl May 19, 2006
Creative's 1GB Zen Nano Plus turned in great results in PC World's new audio-quality tests, and, at $109 (as of 4/13/06), the inexpensive flash-based player is quite full-featured. The Nano Plus includes an FM tuner and records from a variety of sources including FM radio, an internal microphone, and a line-in port.
The player uses a standard mini-USB port to let you sync tracks via USB 2.0. You can simply drag files to the device using whatever folder structure you like, or use Windows Media Player or Creative's MediaSource app to aid you in synching your favorite songs. Creative's familiar jog dial lets you thumb through folders and songs fairly efficiently, aided by the Zen Nano's backlit LCD display. The device supports the standard set of codecs, including MP3, WMA, and Audible.
In our audio-quality tests, the Zen Nano Plus produced less distortion and noise than almost all the other flash-based players, and earned the highest overall score for audio quality in this category.
Like most low-priced MP3 players, the Zen Nano Plus has a few drawbacks. Creative's decision to power the device using a standard AAA battery is both a blessing and a curse: It's nice to be able to swap in a fresh battery without recharging, but, at a rated 18 hours per battery, you'll be racking up battery bills rather quickly if you use disposables.
The Nano Plus also lacks a key-lock feature, making accidental button presses a possibility when you're carrying the player in a pocket or bag. Finally, though the inclusion of a standard mini-USB port is appreciated, a standard-size USB port would let the player double as a flash drive much more easily.
Still, if you don't mind using a AAA battery with your audio player, Creative's Zen Nano Plus is a great value. Its audio quality is impressive for a flash-based model, and, despite its low price, it managed to pack in most of the features we look for in an inexpensive MP3 player.

Duration of ownership: 5 Months
Strengths: Good playback quality, built in: radio, voice recorder, radio recorder, 1GB, skip free, Backlight length chooser.
Weaknesses: Scratches very easily
Overall: When I first bought this it worked great. I was very suprised on how long the battery life was on a single triple AAA battery. I bet it got about 16 hours on 1 battery. After about two months I noticed it kept getting scratched up from simple places like my pocket. After that the battery life is now about 2 hours for one battery. Right now its so scatched up that I'm going to repaint it. I'm not sure what I'll do about the screen. Its so scratched up right now I cant even read what songs playing. If you plan on buying this if they offer you a one year warrenty, I suggest taking it.

Strengths: The sound is very good! I would recomend this product to anyone.
Weaknesses: The ear buds are a bit awkward but they have good sound. I lost the cover to one of the ear pieces.
Overall: This product is quite easy to download to. Finding different selections is also easily done for the not so accomplished computer person. I reccomend this product to anyone who has a keen ear for good tones.

Strengths: Easy enough that even my mother can use it. Simple to use.
Weaknesses: Arm band is way too big. The software provided makes it more difficult to load music than need be. Loss of FM station programming with every battery change.
Overall: I did a fair bit of research before purchasing this MP3 player. The price and reviews are what sold me on it. It's very simple to use. I read the printed guide that came with the player but it was easier just to plug it in and figure it out. The drag and drop method works the best. Just treat it like a flash drive. Easy to arrange music into folders that I want the way I want.

Strengths: Ease of use...If I can use this, ANYONE can
Weaknesses: A bit fragile in some spots. Head phones are poor, but easily replaced.
Overall: PERFECT for techo-phobes like me. My 20 yo assured me, "It's a piece of CAKE, DAD! Even YOU can use this." She was right on! I haven't even started exploring all the possibilities and can see hours of fun ahead. Took my entire music library without a hitch, with room to spare. Perfect small size for the car or office. I couldn't have asked for a better beginner piece.

Strengths: ease of use, sound quality, tiny size
Weaknesses: ear buds too large and uncomfortable
Overall: I agree with all the previous reviewers about the sound quality, great size and ease of use. This is my first mp3 player and am I impressed! I just figured out how to compress songs into wma 64 bit size and there is no change in sound quality! fabulous. Also, I just purchased new ear buds by Koss - called The Plug - and now the Zen Nano is even better! For the price, I can't believe the quality of this tiny player - highly recommended!!

Strengths: Music Quality; Size / Weight; Encode Feature; Ruggedness; Use for Jogging
Weaknesses: Poor User Manual / Tech Support; Mediocre Music Organizer
Overall: I love the size, the sound quality and the ease of operation. I also like the encode feature that allows the user to rip analog music - such as records or tapes - to MP3 format. With this feature, I am able to transfer my old album collection to MP3!Just wish the tech support / manual were better - some of the encode functions are difficult to figure out sometimes (stops recording before the track is over)
