The tiny Pioneer Inno squeezes a radio receiver and an MP3 player into a package that looks like a mobile phone--but it lets you listen to and record live XM Satellite Radio on the go. By letting you mix radio content with your music collection, this device could change the way you listen to music.

Pioneer Inno XM2go Review, by Paul Jasper December 20, 2006
The 1.7-inch color screen displays the artist, song title, and channel to which you're listening. To record the current song, you just hold down the XM button at the center of the Inno's control panel.
Using the intuitive menus, you can also continuously record from one channel, or schedule a time to record. You press the Mode button to switch from live radio to your recordings. The menus let you organize your music into playlists; you also can mix recorded radio with uploaded music in one playlist.
When you run the included Napster software on your PC, it shows you the songs stored on the player and lets you upload your own tracks. In addition, you can buy tracks from Napster for 99 cents each, or buy a monthly subscription for unlimited downloads (which disappear should your subscription expire).
Audiophiles, however, may have some complaints with the Inno. In our lab tests, its audio quality was not as impressive as that of the best small MP3 players we've reviewed recently, such as the iPod Nano and the Creative Zen Nano Plus. In particular, you are likely to hear a lot of distortion at high volume.
At $400, the Inno doesn't come cheap. But this innovative device might just offer a look at the future of radio.

Strengths: Size, versatility, MP3 playback, record broadcast, great sound and reception. This device does it all: home, car and portable.
Weaknesses: Memory could be larger.
Overall: I have used this device as a portable device, at home using the home dock, and in the car using the car dock. I have never had any type of reception problem, with the exception of driving through a tunnel (guess you can expect that with any type of radio transmission). Have had a couple of times when the reception went out for a second when blocking the antenna, but it self-corrected and the outage was so minimal I really didn't care. I have read a lot of reviews here with complaints about the battery life. I have not had that problem first hand. I have used the device for 3 days now, and haven't had to re-charge (I'd say that I've used it for about 8 hours without a re-charge). Love the fact that you can record songs and/or broadcasts and that I can also load my own music. Guess I can get rid of my Toshiba Gigabeat now. This is my first journey in to satellite radio and I have to admit, I'm loving it and I absolutely love my Inno!!!!! The price was great and right now they are offering a $50 mail-in rebate, which makes the price even better. Have not had any issues with the battery cover falling off or poor reception. I have a friend that is on Sirius and he complains about signal loss a lot. Have not had that problem with my Inno. Highly recommended!!!!

Strengths: Size, Weight, Features.
Weaknesses: Built in antenna could be stonger. A better antenna would improve reception
Overall: It would be great if you could down load music from the INNO. The Case and headphones are included. Headphones with buit in antenna are available from Belkin as an additional accesssory.

Strengths: Very cool product, it's great to have the satellite when you are out for a run.
Weaknesses: Terrible battery life!! Battery runs dead even when not in use!
Overall: This is a great product. We love it and use it with the car kit in our car and use it while running and hiking. So far the reception has been great. It's only downfall is the terrible battery life!!! It needs to be on the charger whenever not in use since it runs dead even when not in use!

Strengths: Portability, strong FM modulator, ability to record XM radio, great screen, battery life decent
Weaknesses: Requires several additional purchases; if planning to use it as more than car unit, not recommended if you live in rural area
Overall: The Pioneer Inno itself is a decent product, but buyer beware - the unit, pricey itself, may require you to: buy a car kit (mine won't work well in my home), buy headphones with a stronger antenna signal in order to use the Inno as a portable player, and will frequently lose its signal. Also, if you already have XM, forget redeeming the advertised $50 rebate - I added a new subscription and gave wife the older unit, but it's not for a new subscription, but new SUBSCRIBERS (go figure). Costly toy.

Strengths: Navigation is easy, display is bright and vibrant, controls are comfortable.
Weaknesses: Reception, battery life, battery cover, heavy when compared to MP3 players
Overall: First of all I have never written a negative review before but just felt like I could save some people from similar hassles. I was really pumped about trying out the Inno after hearing good reviews and talking with users of XM radio but the reality was less than stellar. The reception was completely unacceptable. If I turned north while holding it lower than my chest it cut out, if I tried to use it in my car (without the car kit) it was useless and I have a sun roof. The only time I got consistent service was when it was docked using the external antenna. I have heard that the headphone/antenna helps but after spending that kind of money I didn't really want to pay extra just to make it work like it should. I do admit that I live in an area where for whatever reason I get poor reception on everything (radio, cell phone, etc.). What really burned me up was that I called to cancel the XM and return the unit, the operator wanted to send a refresher signal (which did help some) and offered a complimentary 90 days to try to get it to work right. Tried it a while longer but the reception was still problematic and that is when I discovered that the battery was surprisingly short lived when going "Live". So I cancel, return the product, and am told by XM that I would be refunded for my subscription. I was refunded minus $15 for the portion of the month that I used and the activation fee. After all of the trouble that I had I was really unhappy that XM would then nickle and dime me for 15 bucks. Like I said in the title, I would not recommend the Inno or XM. There are too many GREAT MP3 players (lot less money, better usability, less weight, and no XM subscriptions) to buy this product.
