Strengths: easy to use; good video quality, small easy to carry around, night mode

    Weaknesses: short battery life

Overall Evaluation: I got this cam and have had ZERO problems with the camera itself. I love the night light feature. Video quality is GREAT... Sounds is GREAT... Only problem I had was I turned it off twice while trying to ZOOM... Software that comes with it is soo soo....I'd look for other software to edit with.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: size, easy to use, top loading, price

    Weaknesses: low light image quality

Overall Evaluation: I like the picture quality with the excellent Carl Zeiss lens. Although improvement can be made in the low light environment. On the bright side I found useful the Super NightShot® infrared system when filming in very low light conditions. Basically in total dark you still are able to get a decent result. For people who like more manual control you will find ways to adjust balance, exposure, etc very easily. Also the Easy Cam feature can be choose to do all the job for you in finding the best setting for an excellent image quality. The touch-screen interface I found easy to use, and if you have had a camcorder before you will appreciate the accessibility. The Super SteadyShot® picture stabilization system is handy helping you in reducing the shaking from hand-held recording. On the negative side I will mention the low resolution of still pictures which is not a big hitch. If you want a good photo get a slr camera. Also a little bit of noise in the background while recording is perceptible but most of the camera under 500$ have this setback. Overall for this money HC-36 is the best deal you can get.
