What You Should Know about the Dell XPS 410

Good Amount of RAM for Running Multiple Apps at Once

This computer includes between 1GB and 3GB of RAM, our recommended level for a new PC. This much memory lets you run any modern operating system and comfortably work with quite a few applications open. The more installed memory your PC has, the more programs you can run smoothly at once, and the better the system will perform. Upgrading memory in a desktop after you purchase the PC is a breeze, but usually it's worthwhile to buy the amount of memory you want preinstalled with the system.

To use more than 4GB of memory on your PC, you need the 64-bit version of Windows XP or Windows Vista. The PCs that you see equipped with 3GB of memory (instead of 4GB) tend to use the 32-bit versions of Windows that are limited to 4GB of addressable memory, the top portion of which is addressed by the various hardware devices on the system.

Strengths: Great sales support. Sales associate was knowlegeable, patient, and informative. She even gave me her personal extension so that I could call her back. I also appreciated the no-haggle approach. -Internal components are easily accessable. -Delivered quickly! -Options for building my own machine were adequate and well explained

Weaknesses: -Needless or undesired software preinstalled! -Why are we still selling keyboard/mouse combos with wires in 2006-2007? -The Silver/Black/White color of the tower does not work.

Overall Evaluation: I purchased a Dell XPS 410 with: Intel Duo Core Processor E6600 2 Gig Memory 250 Gig Hard Drive Windows Media Center 2005 w/ free Vista Upgrade 256MB GeForce 7900 GS nVidia Graphics Card No Monitor For under $1,500. With the overall performance of the machine for the exceptional price, it is a STEAL! I can raise all graphic settings and never notice a stutter. Even while running high demanding games such as Doom III and Company of Heros. I am not disappointed in the performance at all.
