    Duration of ownership:

    Strengths: wireless ready

    Weaknesses: none so far

Overall Evaluation: This is the great wireless ready AIO print server. You could set up this printer without any cable. You could directly operate scan/copy/fax/print function via network. Very very convenient! If this is a laser one, everything will be perfect.

Strengths: WiFi capability.9 in 1 functionality. Easy installEasy to use

Weaknesses: Paper jams every time with a CD label sheet.

Overall Evaluation: Super cheap for a MFC with WiFi, document feed, speaker-phone, digital TAD, etc.Brother support pathetic, just sent me list of supported paper specs (same as in the manual). It is supposed to accept up to 220gsm, 0.25mm cut sheet!! Grrr.On the whole excellent value for money spent.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Space saver, color fax, stand alone copier, individual ink cartridges, plain paper, LCD display

Weaknesses: maintenance cycle uses up ink

Overall Evaluation: I bought this to replace a plain paper fax machine. One that had paper piled up in the rear. The MFC has the paper neatly hidden away. Color and B&W printing is good. If you have to print a photo, use photo paper. I did learn one thing. It goes thru a "maintenance cycle" cleaning the heads and whatever. This "cycle" will use up ink. So use it or loose it. It wouldn't be so bad if you could shut the machine down, but I need the phone. It's a good solid machine. Has more features than I use (now). When I get a laptop, I'll set up the wireless.

Strengths: all in one - print/copy/scan/fax/photo/phone/voicemail,small footprint,wi-fi printing, quiet and fast, separate photo paper tray, ink is SUPER cheap, elegance, adf, photo center, affordable

Weaknesses: Slow bootup/shutdown,Heavy? Not really :)

Overall Evaluation: I can't speak too highly of this multifunction center. I purchased it for 130$ on Amazon, and the value for money speaks for itself. It has EVERYTHING an office needs - from faxing, copying, scanning, printing and a full phone center with answering machine. It's a fast and quiet machine that has an ADF feeder that is indispensable. I can't believe how cheap the inks are, as well, online and in stores. Each ink cartridge (4 in all) lasts a long time and photo printouts are really quite stunning. The LCD screen is a bit blurry on high res photos, but we can't get it all. I don't really care that much since I don't view photos on the screen, I just use the card readers to print out photos on the DEDICATED photo tray that it has. Did I mention that this features every kind of connection ever? Wi-fi, ethernet, usb...it's just too cool a machine. If this isn't a five star item, then there isn't anything that is. The wi-fi setup was DEAD easy, and the built in computer does everything for you. I can't be happier, objectively speaking. There are drivers for every operating system as well. Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux are all natively supported. You can access the scanner, fax, card reader and print functions all wirelessly.BTW - There is a new firmware update, but I don't know what it does. Download from the Brother site.

Strengths: Has not burst into flames, or emitted anything radioactive.

Weaknesses: Does not work with Windows, can barely work with Mac. Using it is a production.

Overall Evaluation: Update: This printer has been nothing but trouble after the first month. * I have it set up a network printer on a wireless network. Even though it is set up as DHCP, it only releases its IP address when it feels like it. When I reconfigured it and the network so that the printer had a statically allocated it an IP address, it would release that address.* I cannot get the printing or scanning to work with my windows PC, just my Mac- and not very well with my Mac (more on that below). Luckily for brother not too many people use Windows XP.* I use the scanning capability occasionally (once every two weeks or so). Initiating scanning from the printer NEVER works. I can only initiate scanning from my Mac, but I always have to restart my Mac before I can scan. Actually I first have to fail at scanning THEN restart my Mac.* After printing a dozen or so pages, and a dozen photos it's almost out of ink.I feel that whatever printers are used in the corporate offices at brother (probably IKON or some other brand) should be replaced with this printer. If I could give a negative star ranking I would give a -10 out of 5.
