Strengths: The first IP1700 I got had a few problems we thought it was a broken part I emailed Canon did some troubleshooting on the printer and they sent me out a referbished printer. I got it in a few days and it works great. I beleive that the Tech support is great and that the stand behind their products and keep us Happy.
Weaknesses: other then low color copies using the refill kits works great
Overall Evaluation: I have had better but compare $ for $ it was a great deal. you do not have the problems if you use a refill kit on the cartrages. I am able to do Color for less then .0001 cents a piece even on inkjet paper it cost .15 cents.

Strengths: Good quality for the price and small
Weaknesses: No card reader slot for easier printing for photo since the printer is under photo printer
Overall Evaluation: I like Canon from the beginning because I can use third party ink without any problem. Then my printer Canon very old model (BJ model) is broken down. I bought this printer at first for simple printing documentation. One day, I need to have a passport photo for my visa application. My husband took photo and print use this printer. Awesome for the price of printer and the ink price.

Strengths: Small, easy to install/use, Great Pictures
Weaknesses: Ink jet printer. Regular use or cleaning is required to prevent clogged printheads and dried out ink.
Overall Evaluation: The iP1700 printer comes with simple instructions for connecting to your PC. I'm using it with Windows XP, but Canon's website says it is certified for Vista, as well. The printer handles different sizes and types of paper well and the print quality is superb. This printer looks, feels and performs like other printers in the Canon family. This printer is perfect as a basic printer for simple needs and limited space.

What You Should Know about the PIXMA iP1700 Photo Printer (17 PPM, 4800x1200 DPI, Color, 96kB, PC/Mac)
PictBridge Support Allows Printing From Camera to Printer -- No Computer Needed
This printer contains a PictBridge port, which looks identical to a USB port (and can sometimes be used for USB flash drives) but is designed specifically for connecting a PictBridge-compatible camera to the machine using a special cable. This is convenient for accessing pictures from your camera using the camera's own interface and software; however, a printer with a PictBridge port probably also has a media slot to accommodate your camera's storage card.
