Except for its ability to print on CD and DVD media, Epson's Stylus Photo R260 might melt into a crowd of generic photo printers. For some users, however, this bonus will outweigh the unit's speed and print-quality shortcomings.

Epson Stylus Photo R260
Stylus Photo R260 Inkjet Printer (30 PPM, 5760x1440 DPI, Color, PC/Mac) Review, by Melissa Riofrio January 22, 2007
Using the Stylus Photo R260 to print on CD or DVD media is fairly easy: You flip a lever to adjust the output-tray level, carefully slide the CD and its special tray into the input tray, and then print. The disc will need at least 30 minutes to dry. Epson's documentation, which you must read beforehand, misses a few details but is essentially reliable. The company provides software for designing the labels, as well.
The Stylus Photo R260 uses Epson's Claria six-color, dye-based ink system (consisting of black, cyan, magenta, yellow, light cyan, and light magenta ink cartridges). Graphics and photos printed promptly, but text came out at the relatively anemic rate of 3.9 pages per minute. Photos printed on glossy paper looked very good; on plain paper, however, the same images looked faded and fuzzy, and text suffered from noticeable feathering and lightness.
The Stylus Photo R260's design mixes simple with tricky. Its control panel has three big buttons, but the symbolic labels were inscrutable to me. The lever on the input tray for switching between regular and CD/DVD printing is unmarked despite being essential to the machine's function--and finicky as well, to judge from all the warnings in the HTML documentation and printed manual.
The Stylus Photo R260 is built for pleasure rather than for business--excelling at CD/DVD and glossy-paper printing, but stumbling on plain-paper printing.

Strengths: Image Quality is outstanding.
Weaknesses: None really. Have printed a couple hundred 8 by 10's. Ink costs run a little more than my R200.
Overall: I have the R200 and R260 setup side by side. My old R200 is excellent, but the prints from the R260 are outstanding. As far as operation goes, it functions pretty much exactly like the R200. I use it strictly as a photo printer. Once you have the right parameters and profiles, coupled with the highest quality paper, the prints are stunning.

Overall: Ritz Camera Sucks I ordered a Lenovo ThinkVision L191 LCD Monitor and it is now 28 days of waiting and a lot of lies for an "In stock" item. I finally got someone to cancel the order...I think, although the CSR would not commit to any kind of confirmation # or a time frame to receive refund. Please steer clear of their online store at the very least they have a distribution network that fills all online orders and have no control over these companies. Worst experience in 12 years of online buying.

Strengths: Great Prints,Professional looking when printed on High Luster Paper
Weaknesses: It has trouble reconizing Epson Cartridges, Uses way too much Ink at a very high Cost.
Overall: With all the weakness I would still use this printer but the Printer Stopped working for no reason, tells me all my ink cartridges are empty. After calling Epson, and doing all they said to do, I was told to take it to repair shop. I figure the repair might cost near what a newer Printer would cost. This is one of two R260 Printer I own, Plus I own a RX580 and a RX680 all which use the same kind of inks. So I think you can understand my disappointment in the R260, because I use it a lot.

Strengths: Very Good photo quality, Software installs easy with XP and Visa, Never has conflict with generic ink, Prints at a good rate of speed
Weaknesses: Ink heads get dry sometimes but easy to do a head clean a couple of times.
Overall: People have been complaining about the ink being used up quick, but all Epson printers use up ink quick. One printer may use up more than the other, but they all use up ink quick and it also depends on the quality of the print job. If you use plain paper with a normal mode all the time, you won't use up all that much ink. I print a lot of high quality photos so I buy generic ink and it works just fine. Other older Epson printers had a problem with generic ink, but not the 260. If you come across a problem with the print pattern, just have the printer clean it's ink heads one or two times and it takes that problem away. I do like this printer out of all the other ones that I've owned.

Strengths: Excellent quality printing for cds and dvds
Weaknesses: recharges cartridges every time you turn it off and back on, this uses a lot of toner.
Overall: I have been very happy with this printer. Shop around, there are many deals right now where if you buy a digital camera and epson printer on the same receipt you can get the printer for free after rebate. Wish I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'d seen that a week earlier.

Weaknesses: Kind of slow.
Overall: I only use this printer for printing CDs and DVDs which is what I purchased it for. I like it a lot and would recommend it to anyone who wanted to print prefessional looking CDs.
