Eizo 19IN 1000:1 1280X1024 BLK 20MS SPKR Review

by Kalpana Ettenson

Pricey 19-inch display delivers great image quality.

The FlexScan S1921 from Eizo Nanao was a strong performer in our image quality tests, producing top-notch text and bright graphics. But the S1921 doesn't offer much aside from excellent image quality.

Lettering on a Microsoft Word document and in a multisize font screen looked sharp and easy to read, even at small point sizes. Colors in photographs of a fruit tart and of people looked bright and realistic, with nicely toned hues and good detail.

Overall the monitor's design is unsophisticated but comfortable. Adjusting the display's height takes a little effort, as the stand is rather rigid. The S1921 pivots with ease, and it also tilts and swivels, though only after you push it. Its on-screen controls are basic, with few options for adjusting brightness and color.

The accompanying print manual, which is not specific to this model, includes setup and installation tips, and explanations of all the on-screen settings and adjustments. An included LCD utility disk contains drivers as well as pivot software.

Though $599 (as of January 12, 2007) is a lot to pay for a 19-inch LCD that delivers great image quality and nothing more, the S1921's rather staid design could make it a good fit for office and corporate environments.
