User Reviews for Konica Minolta Magicolor 2530 DL Color Laser

Strengths: Good print quality, reasonable print speeds (lower than stated however).

Weaknesses: Incredibly expensive to operate, the black toner that comes in the box did not last for 500 pages of printing, and all three color toners went shortly after that. With the initial printer cost being $350+, that breaks down to 70 cents a page, and I’m afraid that it doesn’t get much better. The cost to replace with four 1500 page output toners (Konica brand) was $417+ or 27.8 cents per page and yes they all expired by the end of 2000 printed pages. Even the four 4500 page output after market toners that are in the machine now cost a total of $290 or 7 cent a printed page.

Overall Evaluation: To say that one of the pros the unit is the of a low cost of operation is ridiculous. Although the hardware cost is low, to fully load it with full bore consumables triples the initial cost of the unit, and amounts to consumer fraud by the manufacturer(although a common practice by nearly all printer manufacturers). Even if you get beyond the initial costs, 7 to 14 cents a page for a laser print is outrageous, and will come as quite a shock to anyone used to a cost of .5 to 2 cents a page from a laser printer.

Strengths: Easy to install & good quality printing.

Weaknesses: Takes longer than I'd expect to print but quality overrides the time to print.

Overall Evaluation: Shopped around for quite some time before choosing the Magicolor 2530DL color laser printer. It had one of the highest ratings in its class. I haven't been disappointed this past month in using. Would recommend.

Strengths: Goes completely quiet when not used for 15-30-whatever you set it minutes. Installed very quickly. BUT the manual tree is backwards for arrow keys. Great print quality.

Weaknesses: I have a hard time with the little display screen - but a simple flashlight supplied enough light to read it. The manual was not very helpful - had to work at it. Got it eventually.

Overall Evaluation: The printer quality is lovely. On glossy paper (which it won't let you use unless you select 'glossy') the pictures I printed for a science fair board were almost as good as those printed by the photo place. It is not a fast color printer, and makes a chunky sound when it goes through the four color cartridges before printing a page, but the speed was as advertised, and the plots from Excel crisp and accurate. For text in b/w, it is as fast as or faster than the laser printer it replace, and quite satisfactory for a home school/office. I can't say anything bad about it, as, under the pressure of doing the SF project, it came through like a trooper - and there was a lot of stuff, and two kinds of paper. Haven't done a scientific review, but I am very glad I have it now - calendars in quick color!

What You Should Know about the Magicolor 2530 DL Color Laser

Duplex Printing a Must for Busy Offices

A printer with duplex capability contains an internal mechanism for turning the paper over to print on the other side. (This is not to be confused with the manual duplexing that some printers offer, where driver software walks you through the process of turning over the paper yourself.) Any high-volume office should seriously consider this feature. The duplexing process slows down your print job a bit, but it also immediately cuts your paper use in half -- good for your budget, good for the environment.
