What You Should Know about the NX860XL

Multitask and Not Bog Down

The more memory a PC has, the faster your programs run and the more windows you can work in simultaneously. Equipped with memory between 1GB and 3GB, this laptop should be able to handle just about any task you can throw at it without bogging down too much. For instance, if you're a multitasker and you'd like to burn a music CD in one window while watching your favorite DVD movie (for the umpteenth time) in another--while flipping between your inbox and your browser to work on your blog during the movie's boring parts--this laptop can manage it all without a hiccup.

Strengths: size of the screen, it's like a desk top you can carry from room to room, with power to run my programs and monitor my network at the same time with out slowing down my work.

Weaknesses: Hard drive is small coming off the rack had to upgraded with the OS and memory.

Overall Evaluation: Had to taylor the lap with a upgrade of the hard drive, OS, and the memory. Other then that, this is a very good laptop, no a great laptop!! for under 2000.00

Strengths: Best bang for buck in class

Weaknesses: Too much pre-loaded software starts with bootup.

Overall Evaluation: Sure, I wish Gateway offered a higher end video card, but the 7900 GS is still pretty good. To me, the bottom line is you are going to pay around $800 more for the same, but cool looking, Dell XPS laptop or $900 more for a Toshiba with a better video card. So if you are willing to more for a better looks or a lot more for a better video card, be my guest. Personal Note: I have owned several Gateways over the last four years and found their Tech Support excellent. Also, Gateway will give breaks to loyal (return) customers. After comparing a lot of laptops, the Gateway NX860XL gamer laptop is a great deal, if not the best value for under $2.5K.
