HP's 30-inch LCD monitor, the LP3065, turned in impressive image quality in our tests. It also has a nice design and unique features that set it apart. Like other 30-inch displays, it's pricey, but it might be worth it if your work demands lots of screen real estate.

HP LP3065
LP3065 Black 30 Review, by Kalpana Ettenson April 24, 2007
The LP3065 performed well in our text and graphics tests, showing extremely sharp text in both a Microsoft Word document and an Excel spreadsheet. Black text on a white background was quite easy to read, even at very small font sizes. However, because of the display's high resolution of 2560 by 1600, icons and text can appear rather small. You can remedy this by increasing the font display size in Windows.
Colors on the LP3065 looked bright and lively, both in photographs and on a screen of a Web site. Again, its high resolution helped the display excel at showing fine detail.
With three DVI ports, the LP3065 is more versatile than other displays--it can be hooked up to several PCs at once using a digital connection, which is a nice extra. All of the ports are dual-link DVI, so they all require a dual-graphics card setup. If you don't already have such a graphics card, you'll have to shell out for one to accommodate this monitor.
The LP3065 lacks an on-screen display (OSD) for adjusting the image--because no components yet exist that support its high resolution. HP states that future versions of the LP3065 will include an OSD. The only adjustment you can make is to brightness--several buttons on the front of the unit dial brightness up or down.
The monitor has a nice streamlined design, with a thin black bezel and a silver stand. It can tilt and swivel, but not pivot. It's also height-adjustable and wall-mountable.
But the LP3065 costs $1699, which is quite a bit for a display. Granted, you do get excellent image quality and lots of room to spread out in, and if you crave viewing detail in your photos and documents, the LP3065 might be worth the splurge.

Duration of ownership: 3 Months
Strengths: Huge viewing area, sharp text and crisp graphics.
Weaknesses: Colors are a overly brilliant, making this monitor's colors too unrealistic for photographers.
Overall: Since the monitor has no color controls, you are limited to your video card's few adjustment features. You can reduce the color saturation on your photo collection by using a photo editor like Photoshop, but then the photos will look dull when viewed on a different monitor. The one plus to having overly brilliant colors is that it makes your XP or Vista desktop icons and gadgets really pop. Never-the-less, the real estate and super sharp text and graphics will outshine the problem of overly saturated colors for most people.

Strengths: Large real estate, relatively inexpensive, USB Hub, multiple inputs
Weaknesses: Overly bright, saturation is absurdly overdone (wide gamut), no OSD, Anti-glare coat gives the display a "dirty" look.
Overall: Wide Gamut monitors in theory sound like a good thing, you get more color representation as the monitor tries to obtain displaying 96% of the Adobe RGB 1998 color profile as opposed 92%. Now that sounds nice, you get 4% more colors but the RGB data sent to a wide gamut display colorimetric's distance between any two colors is much larger. This means you gain more colors at the cost of less accuracy. Using the Delta E as the index for the color measurement, an RGB color of 240,250,200 and 240,250,201 would normally have a Delta E difference of about 1 on a regular LCD, 2 on a Adobe RGB display and on a wide gamut. That's a two fold increase on the Adobe RGB, and 4 on the standard. However, the OS, graphics card, Apps and so forth would all need to recognize this to make use of the colors accurately..So what does all this translate to? This display looks displays colors overly brilliantly. Remember the color setting on your old CRT TV? Its the same effect without the bleeding where the colors are unrealistic and eye fatiguing. The HP is no different. I stupidly ordered this instead of the 305T but found it unusable for motion graphics as it was too bright, too overblown and too inaccurate. As a motion graphics editor I don't demand the same precision as my print media friends do but I do want a display I can stare at for hours and displays the colors well. THe 3065 is NOT that display. .I've used several 30 inch displays. To this day the 305T has been my favorite. I'm boxing this and sending it back. With OS X, there's simply no hardware controls for nVidia but even in windows this display is disgustingly overdone. .Of course you can listen to all the positive reviews, but if you value accuracy at all this is not the display for you. .One strange feature that's welcome but totally unnecessary is the 3065 sports 3 inputs. Seeing that the display cannot do scaling it will not double as an HDTV. It will only accept 1280 x 800 or 2560 x 1600.

Strengths: Gorgeous display, crisp, clear picture.Absolutely the most bang for your buck
Weaknesses: As with any flat screen, it can get rather hot. This thing puts off a decent amount of heat (not like a 360, but still quite warm).
Overall: I don't know how I ever considered another monitor "good" after owning this one. Every aspect of it, from the USB to the Dual-Link DVI is spot on. This is FAR superior to Dell's excuse for a 30". You will not find a better monitor in almost any price range.

Strengths: More accurate coloration out of the box than others.
Weaknesses: The looks can be improved.
Overall: At around $1200, this is one of the highest quality 30" LCD 2560x1600 resolution. I have read numerous reviews online and determine this LCD is the best price and performance ratio among Dell, Samsung, and Gateway.

Weaknesses: No scaler, No Video input, Minimum control (Brightness only)
Overall: Great monitor: Amazing real estate, no dead pixel, good image quality for desktop app and games, great refresh speed for games (could not see any ghosting). Great price ($1000)I haven't tested video on it or the adjustable height since it stayed at minimal height. Cable access is somewhat difficult due to the size but that is nothing to fault this monitor as I have the same problem with my 24'. Haven't tested the USB hub yet.I have been using a 24' until now. I am amazed how much more real estate you get with a 30'. I understood that theoretically it has almost 2x more pixels (4MP vs 2.3MP) but this does not prepare you for the impact of seen how big this monitor is. It is HUGE! Make sure you have the space on your desk and be prepared to have to sit a little further from it than even a 24'.I got a great price from techexcess.net (with the $100 mailing rebate from HP it came down at $1000 with H&S). 2x pixels for 2x dollars compared to a 24' = no brainer if you are like me, always switching between windows and wanting to see more information at once.BTW techexcess service was great: they answered emails within 24hr and I received my brand new monitor 1 week after ordering. Thanks to pricegrabber and techexcess for making me save $250 on this monitor!Note: I was originally waiting for the Dell (I am the happy owner of a 24' Dell 2407WFP) but a few reviews including this one (http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,2077914,00.asp) made me reconsider. Time will tell if the HP is as reliable as the Dell but so far I don't regret a bit!PS: I am an occasional gamer, and Crysis on a 30' at 2560x1600 looks amazing (I have a 8800GT which seems to handle this rez without pb. It also scales up smaller resolutions so resolutions like 1920x1200 may be displayed full screen!)
