User Reviews for Gateway E-475M

Strengths: Right off be aware that I've been shopping for a replacement laptop, bought one and returned it (not this laptop)and am commenting on previous opinions only. 1) If true the battery life would be fantastic!

Weaknesses: 1) Never been able to "touch" this computer. I like to try before I buy. 2) There may be a 17" so the 10 key pad returns...but???? 3)The dual processor, wireless, DVD burning 17" I had for a day cost $599.00 4)Should be given choice of operating system. Mine had Vista and $10,000 of software became worthless. Nothing special but AutoCad was 5 grand or so and was purchased just before Vista release. XP was way better. I'm not throwing 10G's away for Vista--get real!

Overall Evaluation: Can't understand the high price with all the competition and need a choice of operating systems. Vista can join ME--a bust for business users.

Strengths: Sounds like a good deal

Weaknesses: Review is misleading with respect to price

Overall Evaluation: The price listed in this review is inaccurate for the specs that are provided. The base price for the notebook is $1300, but that is a 1.8 GZ processor, 512MB of RAM, Integrated Intel® GMA x3100 Graphics, 80GB 5400rpm Serial ATA hard drive, etc. If you add all the options to match the specs of this review, the price is closer to $2000. I just chatted with a Gateway rep to confirm this. So, the reviewer didn't do a very good job of checking their facts.

Strengths: large screen, not too heavy

    Weaknesses: not a toshiba. :-(

Overall Evaluation: i really did not want this laptop when i first got it. i am a huge fan of toshiba laptops (hp for desktop). so far, however, i like it. it has most of the standard features of any business-quality laptop and is about the same weight. the screen size is wide, and the trackpad is pretty accurate. my only complaint about this product is that it's a gateway -- peripherals are not easy to come by. i needed a universal external power cord for a secondary power source and couldn't get one that matched at fry's. also, i've noticed a bit of brand-snobbery amongst the starbucks fashionistas....

What You Should Know about the E-475M

Multitask and Not Bog Down

The more memory a PC has, the faster your programs run and the more windows you can work in simultaneously. Equipped with memory between 1GB and 3GB, this laptop should be able to handle just about any task you can throw at it without bogging down too much. For instance, if you're a multitasker and you'd like to burn a music CD in one window while watching your favorite DVD movie (for the umpteenth time) in another--while flipping between your inbox and your browser to work on your blog during the movie's boring parts--this laptop can manage it all without a hiccup.
