Strengths: Affordable at-home printer!!
Weaknesses: None so far!!
Overall Evaluation: I would highly recommend this printer for someone who needs a all-in-one printer at a affordable price. Color is excellent for a inkjet printer. So far I have no problem with it. This printer is very reliable.

Strengths: Fast printing compared to other inkjets.
Weaknesses: As many other users have reported, there is a significant issue with the paper feeding mechanism. It either won't feed, or pulls-in the paper at an angle, and then jams.
Overall Evaluation: If you can get this printer for under $65 dollars, it may be worth dealing with the paper feeding issue. But otherwise, I would not recommend it. Certain stores are really starting to mark down the price of this printer as I suspect that they are getting a lot of them 'returned' due to the paper feeding issue I described.

Strengths: Budget Printer. Easy Installation and operation.
Weaknesses: Not a great Photo printer
Overall Evaluation: I bought this for home use. Quite a decent printer considering the price. Not a great photo printer, if you are mainly looking for great quality photos. The scanner is quite good. Overall its a nice budget All In One Printer for moderate home use.

Strengths: High resolution scanning, excellent print quality (text and documents)
Weaknesses: Scanner bed is embedded (not flush with top of printer), ink catridges don't look like they carry much ink
Overall Evaluation: I got this multi-function inkjet printer a while back but let it sit around in its box for a while. Finally got around to opening it. Too bad I waited so long because this thing is pretty useful. First, the features: inkjet printer, flatbed scanner, copier. It has an LCD status screen, card reader and pictbridge for direct digicam connection (for digital cameras that support pictbridge). So far, I've printed some documents and the text is so fine that it looks like it came off my laser printer. The scanner and scanning software are easy to use and supports scanning resolutions of about twice the resolutions of most other multifunction devices. However, I did have a problem scanning a document I had filled out using B&W document scanning mode: the handwritten blue ink and thin form lines of the document I was scanning did not go through well. Switching to picture mode made for better results there. The flatbed itslef is embedded a little bit from the surface of the printer around it. This is no big deal for regular sized documents, but it is not possible to get oversized items flush with the glass. As a result, it is either difficult or impossible to scan larger things or sometimes they come out very blurry and out of focus. The black ink cartridge is average sized. However, the color cartridge is very small, and this one very small cartridge holds all the colors. Seems this printer is more for printing documents than photos, as this color cartridge doesn't look like it can print a whole lot before needing replacement. It doesn't come with fax capabilities. Instead, I scan the documents to computer and then use my computer's fax modem to send faxes. Like most printers these days, it does not come with a USB cable for connecting it to your PC. Despite all these shortcomings, I still like this MFP.

What You Should Know about the Pixma MP470
Inkjets Print Photos Well, And Decent Looking Text, Too
Inkjet printers like this one are commonly used in a home or student setting as well as in a small office. Printing photos is their strongest suit, although they can also print decent to good-looking plain text. For the best results, you usually need to use specially coated papers.
Inkjet printers spray ink through microscopic nozzles arrayed on a print head. Because the printhead has to move back and forth across the page, inkjets can be slow--especially when printing those nice photos.
Ink type affects print quality. Dye-based inks (color dissolved in liquid) tend to create better-looking colors, but they’re less light- and water-resistant. Pigment-based inks (solid color particles suspended in liquid) create images that are more durable but not quite as colorful. Some inkjet printers use both: a pigment-based black for crisp text quality, for instance, but dye-based colors for better-looking graphics.
Ink cartridges come in two basic designs. The colors (cyan, magenta, and yellow) can come in a unified “tricolor” cartridge or in separate cartridges. There’s always a separate black. The tricolor cartridges are more compact, but they’re also wasteful because you have to replace the entire cartridge whenever you run out of any one color. Some printers offer additional colors, such as light cyan or light magenta, to widen the color palette.
